Hey folks, it’s movie review time again and as you may have gathered from the title of the post this time I’m bringing you my review of The Five Year Engagement, starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt.
Now I wasn’t overly sure I was going to enjoy The Five Year Engagement. Tom (Jason Segel) proposes to his girlfriend, Violet (Emily Blunt), one year to the day after they met at a New Years Eve party, but as bad luck would have it the two go down a rather bumpy road and what was originally planned as a short engagement leads to Five Years!
The Five Year Engagement – Blazing Minds Film Review
The film is a romantic-comedy and one which could have possibly been a lot shorter than its 124min running time, what starts off to be something that has promise of being a hysterical comedy, start to slow down in to the second half of the film and becomes very series.
At this point in the film, you are now, no longer laughing at or with the characters, but you start to feel for them and the problems they are going through with their relationship, with the main characters struggling through their lives, very much like how they are with the film itself.
Although this isn’t a bad point for The Five Year Engagement, it all adds to the storyline of something wonderful going bad, but then bouncing back again.
There are some rather funny parts to the film, such as Emily and her sister, Suzie (Alison Brie) having a discussion/argument as Elmo and The Cookie Monster, which did have me in stitches, as did the scene with a play on words with Peony Roses, though the laughs are far and few between, The Five Year Engagement, still has the feeling of a Rom-Com.
I do have to mention that there are some rather rude scenes and some profanity, but make note, The Five Year Engagement does have a 15 certificate, you have been warned.

Overall Thoughts For The Five Year Engagement
If you like Rom-Coms and you enjoyed Bridemaids and Forgetting Sarah Marshell, then you’ll really enjoy the film, but it is a little long and there are several parts of the film that could have been left out to shorten and speed up the film. But overall it’s funny, serious and a great night out.

Hi Karen,
This is an incredible story. Imagine there engagement took so long and always postponed because of the several obstacles and trials in life. This story is touching but you always laugh. Specially when Violet was having a theses that those who eat stale donut has no ambition in life then caught Tom eating stale donut. They even broke up and lived each own and so many things had happened until one day when one of grandparents of Violet died and Tom attended the burial. They met and the final engagement has been made and the wedding had been done.

I watch Movie totally based on its reviews, According to your views the movies seems pretty good. Today many movies are combination of comedy and romance like Friends with benefits, No strings attached etc, which proved to be pretty entertaining. I will surely check it, thanks for sharing.
