OK now his is a bit of a delayed review of Trance, but I had to have a hypnotherapist help me remember where I’d left my review, see write things down on paper and you can leave them anywhere.
So Trance is Danny Boyle‘s latest movie starting James McAvoy the second film I’ve seen with him recently and let’s face it Danny Boyle’s Trance is so much better than Welcome To The Punch, which I reviewed recently.
Trance – Danny Boyle’s Hypnotic Crime Drama [Review]
Trance is a crime caper with a difference it has a brilliant idea that is taken one step further by bringing in something that has he audience pondering on who had done what, where and when.
So art auctioneer Simon (James McAvoy) is involved with the robbery of a priceless painting, but after a blow to the head during the robbery, he loses his memory and the painting, so it’s time to get him to hypnotherapist Elizabeth (Rosario Dawson) to find out where the painting is.
All sounds very simple doesn’t it, but the beauty of Trance is in the way that the film works on the idea of Simon and the journey he has to take with the criminals and the hypnotherapist, which all goes far deeper than expected.
Trance has a brilliant cast and all of them bring in something special in to the film, with some pretty good twists and turns, Danny Boyle has brought us a film that keeps you right on the edge of your seat throughout it’s running time, up to the point where you start to piece everything together.
Keeping you gripped through a film, that some people have found complicated, is no easy task, but Danny Boyle has done a superb job.
Trance isn’t overly action packed and that’s where it works so well, the film makes you think, the scenes where James McAvoy starts remembering still leave you working out a lot of the story yourself, which for me, just made the film more interesting and intriguing.
It’s nice to see a film like Trance that is slightly different, there is no 3D, it’s a simple 2D film that the story has you wanting more, I really enjoyed Trance, and if it hadn’t been for my good mate, Spencer Wilding (who has a small part near the beginning) then I may have missed out on Trance.

Overall Thoughts For Trance
An interesting concept, nicely directed by Danny Boyle, thought-provoking and a film not to be watched with a lack of concentration. If you seen the film, Memento, then Trance is a film to see.
If you are looking for a film that will make you brain cells work a little then I really recommend Trance.
