It seems that my blog has been quite hungry lately so I decided to do a bit of spring cleaning to help it speed up a tad and be less server-side hungry.
So I have deactivated a few wordpress plugins these were the Cute Profiles, Wibiya Toolbar, WordPress.com Stats and the WP Greet Box, also I removed several “buttons” from the columns on the blog which were not really needed.
And as another work around for speeding up the blog I have installed WP Super Cache, since removing the plugins etc and adding Super Cache I have noticed a real speed difference, so hopefully this will help others viewing the site and speed up the process.
So lets see how it goes and maybe I will remove some other plugins in the next few weeks, depending on how everything is running, I may also consider changing the design of the blog to something a little quicker

Your blog is loading MUUUUCH faster Karen, killing those plugins was a good call. I have a post scheduled for tonight titled “Bloggers Clean Up Your Crap”. They say great minds think alike

I think my “spring clean” was over due, I even removed some code from the header section, it’s certainly seems to have done the job

I notice a big difference in your load time. I will be doing some spring cleaning in a few days as well. I have a lot of installed plugins that I dont use I need to remove and then I want and get rid of some of the plugins that slow things down.

This is also something I’m looking forward to starting over from scratch; sorta.

The plugins weren’t that important and I can run the blog without them

Not important for actual operation of the blog, sure, but certainly “useful” as far as visitors/readers go.
OK I certainly don’t mean to sound argumentative here, lol, sorry, just an observation.

Which of the removed plugins I’ve mentioned would you say would be worth re-activating, on a readers side of the blog?

Cute profiles – a lot more noticeable then the sexy thing (at least to me), and it saved under the post for other things, like a well placed subscription box or Adsense or whatever. Plus they are really darn cute…
Wibiya Toolbar – if/when this catches on, it is extremely useful. I actually hated it due to lack of understanding; then I saw the best review of it.
WP Greet Box – although they screw up Google descriptions unless you tweek some things, it can provide some handy information to visitors.

Welcome and I hope I was helpful. I was a little worried you might think I was just a last word freak or something, lol.
This may be just me, but up to now I’ve always kept space saving real estate & user ease 1st and speed a close second…however with Google now adding speed as a ranking factor, I may have to tweak even more.

Wow! Your site is flying! I’m going to check into that Super Cache plug in and see what I can do to make mine a bit faster on the load time. That, and I probably need to ditch a few things [or move them to a page of their own].

I see you have cute profiles back – love that one.
The Wibiya Toolbar – I remain unconvinced. How has your experience with this tool been? Does it really add value for you? I find myself hiding it any time I visit a blog with it turned on.

Since using Wibiya I have noticed an improvement with my bounce rate, so maybe it does help a tad, I’ll have to see how it goes over a longer period.
