It’s was a strange day the other day with Twitter, there I was happily tweeting away on my Twitter @BlazingMinds with my trusty Tweetdeck, when I got a read warning message about the Twitter API not working!

“Oh well, nothing to worry about” I thought, but it kept happening more and more, so I decided to visit the Status website for Twitter and find out what was going on…

It seemed to be the Twitter was suffering from “Site availability issues” which all boils down to one particular thing that we have been seeing on the Twitter website… The Fail Whale and Twitter Over Capacity!

Hello Mr Twitter Fail Whale

Since the first mention of the problem, twitter have been updating their status and some Twitters may have even noticed a few options disappearing from the [intlink id="109" type="category"]Twitter website[/intlink] such as Twitter Search, hovercards, web sidebar data (trends, friends counts, etc) Also some tweets have been delayed a tad, but Twitter do promise they will be delivered.

So have you had any problems with Twitter today, did your Twitter client, TweetDeck or Hootsuite, for example have issues?

And most of all are you really bothered or do you just take the problems with a pinch of salt? ;)

[UPDATE] It seems that Twitter i having problems again today 13th June, with even more showing of the Fail Whale page, according to the Twitter Status website “We are experiencing site-wide availability issues due to a network service interruption. We’re currently working to address these issues. We’ll update with more information as it is available.” So I’m afraid we’ll all have to just suffer these outrages, until Twitter can sort it all out, I wonder if it has anything to do with the World Cup! Hmmmm

[UPDATE #2] More problems today 15 June, as tweets vanish from the cached timelines and tweeting is responded to with an internal server error! But luckily this problem has been resolved …

I’m in the same boat as Hesham but being a website owner I know at times it’s hard not to have downtime. So I try not to be such a hard critic lol.

    Karen,
I usually take it in stride but for some reason the Twitter outage really got to me today. Maybe it was because I was short on time today and the hour or so that I had to spend on Twitter I was not able to do anything with. They need to get better at this over capacity thing. What if Google used the same excuse, it just wouldn’t fly.

Twitter was down like crazy true but that didn’t stop you from adding that cool 125 to your blog. I did get caught on the whale a few times yesterday and you would think a multi billion dollar website would never crash then you think of just the cell phone traffic, then the …. Amazing :)
I also really like the badge on your site because I know it will attract the right people sometimes small growth off awesome bloggers will pay off better then senseless expansion of nameless faceless numbers.
Oh I was tweeting from Bloggerluv just fine :P
I also changed you to author but you have to log in from wp-admin and I will add a nice author’s plugin. I don’t want you to write anything because I asked or you think you have to because you don’t but I hope over time you want to and trust me not many will have that option :) Your rock as a friend and I trust you 100%.
In fact if it wasn’t for your support and friendship when I started I may not even of bothered to be honest :)
    Thanks
    John

  8. Most of time i get error from tweetdeck of “API reached its max limit’. Well, that’s tweetdeck API problem, but if twitter want to compete with FB, they shall address, over twitting problem first and than think for competition.

A decent twitter client would handle the API errors by simply trying again a couple of minutes later until the tweet was finally posted. I only saw the fail whale a few times, but I’ve been limiting my time on the net to improve my productivity! ;-)

Hi Karen, I saw that awful fail whale again today as you said. I don’t think it’s because of the word cup (totally guessing here) I just think that everyone is feeding all of their stuff into Twitter from ping.fm and now the updated Tweetdeck and so on.
It’s like just about everything you sign up for lets you autopost to Twitter.
