Resetting the power and unplugging everything is usually a good call and should fix most problems. I would be worried if that didn’t work though.

As Keith said “You really have to love a simple fix.”

It reminds me of when I was a kid. I would take things apart and put them back together again. Even though I didn’t see anything wrong it worked when I got it back together. I never figured out what was wrong or how I fixed it.

It wasn’t cheap and I have had it for a while, but it is a essential piece of kit to have! The one I have has seven sockets and is linkable to other hubs so you can chain them together.

Good thinking on your part. I don't know how much you paid for the hub but is is one of those things you probably had for a while and no longer have a warranty for. Now that I am installing more hardware (mic, external hard drive, speakers, etc.) I'm starting to run of of USB slots to use. I'd better start looking at USB hubs. If you are testing a new hub you don’t have to do the things you said. You just plug it in and install the driver if its needed. If you happen to have problems with it than try the method Karen described and hope you will be as lucky as she was

Yes if you do have problems with the hub malfunctioning this will hopefully get it working again, if you are installing a hub for the first time then make sure you follow the manufacturers instructions

OK I was just about to test a new hub. are you saying to power everything down, disconnect from computer/reconnect to hub and power up?

Basically NOT doing it with everything on…

I don’t think that it was your flash drive’s fault that you laptop crashed. Maybe it was something wrong with the USB ports and that problem led to the crash.

I just probably guess the software to recognize the USB did not load properly the first time and when you rebooted the whole thing, it started to work. But anyways, great that it is working..

I hope my laptop gets well the same way…The sound thing is completely gone an I have no clue why it stopped functioning when everything seems just as fine..

Most PC problems specially software glitches can be fixed by a simple restart. Now for USB’s, yes restart is enough sometimes but what you did is better as you completely let the computer unpowered <- if theres such a word

I would never have that good of luck!

I had a problem with a flash drive, that wouldn’t let me safely remove it. I’m pretty sure it led to my laptop crashing last summer.
