Now those of you who read my blog, now about my gorgeous little red Mini Cooper, and how much I love it, what can I say it’s my pride and joy and it was a present for my *cough*th birthday
The only thing that annoys me is that with the Mini you don’t get a spare tyre, just a tyre welding kit in the bottom of the boot, just in case you do get a flat!
Yesterday, I had my very first puncture, the first puncture in all the years I’ve driven, so it was bound to happen sooner or later. I pulled into my friends drive and popped in the house, when I came back out I could hear a slight hissing noise and on closer inspection, found that the front tyre had a slow puncture.
So, in an effort to get some help, I rang my Mini service and was told to get it to the nearest tyre service to have it repaired, luckily it was slow puncture, so I managed to get to the tyre garage to get it sorted.
But, unluckily for me, the puncture, a tiny little whole, was in the wrong place to be repaired, so I had to buy a new tyre.
So now after £58 I’ve got three Michelin tyres an a Pirelli tyre, couldn’t get a matching tyre, poodoo!!!
Now a quick message to BMW Mini, redesign the Mini in a way that a spare tyre is “standard” fixture not an optional etc, that way, it would be a lot easier than having the silly tyre welding kit in the boot

Is it legal for you to drive around with two different tyres on the same axle? In Denmark, where I used to live, it wasn’t. It was okay to have one brand on the back and another in front, but not two different brands on the same axle.

I have had two Mini Coopers myself and never like the lack of a spare, you would be surprised how many cars do not give you a decent spare as standard these days. I think a lot of car manufacturers saw it as a way to save money without being noticed until after the sale of the car!
I cannot remember for sure, its been a few years since I ordered my last mini whether you can get an upgrade option for a spare wheel. That would not be a proper wheel, but one of those funny little things just designed to get you to the nearest garage.
Getting a hole in the wall of your tyre can happen any time, just bad luck
Anyway, all is not lost, your car is still in one piece
Minis are great cars, really good fun to drive, I really missed ours when we sold it… after having a kid. They are not very practical if youve got kids… well the new traveller may be better!

I know it’s a pain not having a spare tyre, but I still think I would have another Mini after this one, maybe the new Coupe

What the heck is a ‘tyre welding kit?’
We have had two blow outs on our van in the last month. I cannot remember the last time we had a flat tire, let alone two in one month. These flats were no walk in the park to fix, as our spare holder was not working, and the spare we had was the wrong tire. Having a good spare is a must, especially if you are traveling and not anywhere close to a repair station.

It’s a kit that comes with a compressor and a special solution that is pumped into the flat tyre to inflate it and seal it with the solution to allow to drive to the nearest tyre place to get a new tyre

That is pretty ridiculous – hope this post goes viral, Mini Cooper needs to be aware that a “spare tire” really isn’t an option. I’ll put this on delicious under cars or something, hopefully that helps get it a bit more attention.

I have never had much luck with spares. Seems they are barely a better option than driving on the rim. I never see how something that looks more like a bicycle tire is considered an appropriate temporary replacement for a giant tire. Glad you made it there to get it fixed.

Lack of a spare tyre HURT, especially when your tyre goes flat in the middle of nowhere. And i can tell you that because I’ve had this experience in the past

I don’t own a mini but I’ve had 3 flat tires in the past 2 years. My luck
But still, not having a spare tire when you desperately need one is no fun at all

Wow! No that is unlucky, here’s hoping that 2011 will bring you more luck
