Yup that's some good advice Martin, and once again i agree.

One thing i need to make clear though, is that is not a hobby for me, it 's a LOT more than that, my artists know that i have complete belief in them, and i'd like to think that what is going to set us aside as a label, is that each artist is helping with it's natural progession, we are all in this together, we realize that we are small time, but we have many many heads all working and doing their own bit to help, and i couldn't have done a half of what i have done without them, bear in mind that EML Recordings was only an idea 5 months ago.

In that time we have grown impressively, i appreciate and am glad that you wish us success, as i do you, and have never said otherwise, bridges can be built, at the end of the day were all in this together, were all here and reading this very comment because we all share a passion about something called music, so let's call it a day, and get back to doing what we do best ?...gonna write me's a tune now !!

Don't rely too much on day to day chart positions on any given store as a sign of success. It only takes a couple of sales on some stores to give this impression. Believe me when I tell you that just 2 sales on any given day can, on many stores, result in a chart position. When a track/artist is topping many download charts or one of the big named charts (eg iTunes, Amazon etc,) week in week out, then it is something to celebrate.

As for Beatport, again, don't count your chickens before they hatch, as Beatport are ruthless and will drop anybody who does not meet their required monthly sales criteria . You could find yourself out in the cold with Beatport without a moments notice and once they drop a label it is a long way back, no matter who your distributor is.

Beatport are a specialised online store, as you know, carrying mainly dance/electro genres of music. Because of this they have become a "must be seen on" store by many but it very often ends in tears when a labels sales just don't cut it. And if you don't constantly meet their required numbers you also fall below their payment threshold and so therefore don't get any money (as well as getting booted off their store). Why do you think so many labels have their own online stores? It's the only way they can ensure
revenue stream without a middle man playing by his rules and constantly moving the goal posts. ( I think Beatport have change their "rules" at least 3 times in the past 12 months, without warning and without consultation)

I do wish you and your label every success but I fear you are still in the honeymoon period, seeing the world through rose tinted spectacles and are going to get a very rude awakening as the next few months pass. There is nothing wrong with positive thinking and aggressive promotion but just be careful you don't start the celebrations too early as pride often comes before a fall. Operating a successful label is a full time job ( and then some), not something you can do in your spare time, that is a hobby and does not do justice to the artists you are releasing , no matter how talented they are.

When you have managed to survive 3 or 4 quarterly sales periods, with your sanity still intact after countless hours spent trying to decipher your spreadsheets and having to tell artists that they have sold "some" track but not enough to get paid (if your distributor doesn't get paid by certain stores, nor do you and therefore neither does your artists) then you are on the right road. But until that day you and your label are nothing in the big scheme of things and when things go wrong it's your blood the artists come looking for not your distributor's, not the online store's but yours.

"Problem is these days it is all too easy for people to make music, start their own label, to sell online — but at the end of the day one thing always remains a constant for long term success, talent".

Yes i couldn't agree with you any more on that, and this is why my label will go on to do great things, becuase we have talent, you dont end up higher in the download charts than the likes of John OO Flemming if you dont have any talent.

Sales and reputation come with association of great music, we have already been associated with quality and talent , that's why we wre accepted on Beatport first time around, before we had even put out a release.

Listening to E.I. on Myspace - gave the site there a stumble. Definitely enjoyed 380 Nanometres, giving "Spiller" a listen... it definitely develops nicely.

Thanks for sharing!

"before I had a falling out with them I was signed to ‘Dpulse’ Recordings (Major label)" -- Jason you and I both know your "falling out" was you having a hissy fit over £20 that was owed to you. A payment that the label had agreed to pay you but instead you chose to contact the individual partners of the label, claiming breach of contract to one and making public derisory comments on the others personal Facebook page.

Before you start with the high and mighty, look I've got my own label perhaps people should look at your track record. As an artist you have sold next to squat, hence the reason for you only being owed £20 in royalties - most of that was made up of CD sales which you yourself bought 2 of!

BTW the PRS does not take care of royalties from sales, they look after royalties due from public performance i.e if your song is played on radio, TV or indeed live, and as head of your own label I would have thought you known that .

I wish I had the time to go on, but as you have stated you have learnt more from my actions than my words - so I hope your words don't come back to haunt you, as the bridges you burn today may the very one you want to cross tomorrow.
