So, there I was about to check out the SPAM on my blog when lo and behold the wonderful yellow banner is on the dashboard, telling me that a new release of WordPress is now available, so without further ado I automatically upgraded, why? Well here’s the quote from the WordPress blog about the release of WordPress 2.8.3.

Unfortunately, I missed some places when fixing the privilege escalation issues for 2.8.1.  Luckily, the entire WordPress community has our backs.  Several folks in the community dug deeper and discovered areas that were overlooked.  With their help, the remaining issues are fixed in 2.8.3.  Since this is a security release, upgrading is highly recommended. Download 2.8.3, or upgrade automatically from your admin.

I use the auto update on the WordPress dashboard, but I suppose it all depends on what version you are running ;)

I would say it’s ironic but I don’t think so. Every bloggers said something somewhere about yet another wordpress update.

I upgraded today and it really did just take seconds. Everyone remember to back up your database every time before you upgrade though. :)

I used to be really slow about updating wordpress, but because of all of the security holes, I started updating as soon as possible.

As it happens there is a large security issue with wordpress 2.8.3 which can be exploited to gain acces to the admin area of the blog without using the log-in screen. WordPress 2.8.4 tackles this issue gracefully-i think that this version was brought out only to solve this issue.
