WordPress Plugins I find useful for Blog Posting
Posted by Karen in blogging tips, wordpress, tags: best wordpress plugins, blogging, blogging tools, Wordpress PluginsWhen it comes to WordPress plugins for posting on my blog, I use several which I couldn’t do without and find extremely useful for several reasons when producing blog posts or controlling posts from guest bloggers.
So after my post about the WordPress Plugins used for my Weekly and Monthly Stats I thought I would bring you some blogging tips and show you just some of the WordPress plugins that I use and fine helpful in my blog. You can get all these plugins via the links from this blog or you can use the “add new” option in your WordPress dashboard under plugins.
- Broken Link Checker – This is great when you have made posts with links and over time these links may become broken, this plugin allows you to find them and edit them via your dashboard.
- Dashboard: Scheduled Posts – If you have posts scheduled then this plugin will display them on your main dashboard, so you can easily see what posts are scheduled.
- Insights – Adds a search box with options on your posting page to search your WordPress blog which is supported by Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO, then add links and images to your post.
- No Self Pings – There is nothing worse than posting on your blog with a link to an earlier post and getting a pingback from your own site, this plugin stops this.
- Pending Post Indicator – This is ideal when you have guest bloggers, it will tell you on the main dashboard if you have any pending posts from a user waiting for review, enabling you to post guest posts quickly.
- Post Template – If you are posting weekly updates or a post which has a similar layout each week, then this plugin will enable you to save a template and use them to quickly create a posts with similar layouts.
- Search & Replace – I find this plugin very useful, it will allow you to search your database and replace anything you want, example: if you change your twitter name, you could search for the address and change all occurrences of the old address to the updated one.

I think that Search & Replace plugin is a must have. I could’ve definitely use something like that more than a few times.
You have to stop finding these plugins after I need them.

Yet another similar list but I have to advice beware from Broken Link Checker. It take lot of CPU resource and effect your hosting account negatively. I already get suspended once. Unless you have a good powerful host, it will be good idea to stay away from it.

This is a great list of plug-ins, I will have to try a few of them. I didn’t know about the dashboard schedule one, and I schedule posts all the time.

I find the schedule plugin very useful, it helps with knowing when posts are scheduled so I don’t post too many on the same day

I only use No Self Pings as I have to frequently link a certain post to an earlier post which carries a certain story of a celeb.

I have tried some of the plugins that you have mentioned and all works well.
Meanwhile, I have to remind you one thing. Why are you using 2 retweet plugins in your posts. Try to remove one of them so that your post’s page will load much better than before.

A great list of plugins. I like the #6 particularly as often I do make post with the same layouts and this will greatly reduce my time when posting similar entries. Like it… Thanks

I use some more like similar posts…it has amazing matching capability and if you have used your tags carefully, you can have a much greater user engagement. Wp-cumulus – fotating animated tag cloud is another one. I don’t use it anymore coz of space requirements but it is pretty cool. Tweetmeme or topsy retweet buttons, and social bookmarking plugins are also a must haves. I recently added post rating system plugin. It is also simplified and pretty good. Thanks for the info By the way.

I admit I am wary of using too many plug-ins on my Wordpress installation. Have had a couple of incidents where plug-ins “misbehaved” and causes issues with server resources abuse. Also, with the constant WP upgrades, it can be a pain making sure upgrades are up to date as well.
By the way, when you say , “there is nothing worse than posting on your blog with a link to an earlier post and getting a pingback from your own site” – what’s so horrible about that? it’s just another internal link, IMO.

I tried the Broken Link Checker a few months back but I don’t think it worked for me – maybe I should give it another try, it has been updated a few times since then, also.
But what’s wrong with self-pings?

Search and Replace is a nice plug in. I think I need Scheduled Post so I can write a couple or three articles and scheduled post it.
By the way, why is it bad if your links within your blog pings back?

Not so much bad, but if you self ping your blog posts then you get a trackback/ping in the comments on the post from yourself!

I love the Broken Link Checker plug-in. Just make sure that you turn it off if you no longer use it because it attracts quite some CPU usage on the server

I personally never use any plugins in writing my posts. But that Broken Link Checker may come handy. Who knows if I write the wrong address or something. I’ll give it a try
