When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped… until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.
You’re Next was originally made in 2011 and although has had many showings at a collection of festivals, it’s only now that the film has been given a wider release.
It had been a while since I’ve seen a home invasion movie, I think the last one was “The Purge”, although this one is mentioned as being a black comedy, it does have some dark comedy moments, but not that many really.
So shortly after the family get together, they are attacked by some rather strange-looking guys in animal masks.
There are moments of black comedy, that are a little far and few between, but they are used to good effect and do break the ice.
You do get to a point of really not liking some of the family members with they are to each other with their attitudes, but that all changes when some of them get taken out one by one, hence the title of the film, “You’re Next”.
Probably not the worlds best home invasion movie, but having a short running time of only 94 minutes, it doesn’t need to do much more than what it puts across.
It does have a nice twist towards the end of the film, which you know is coming but you’re not totally sure on the outcome of the twist.
It may be wrong for me to say that it’s a fun film, special with the genre and violence in the film, that’s why it has an 18 certificate, it’s not so much as a horror, but more of a violent thriller.
Ok the acting skills of the cast may not be all that amazing, but this is movie is made on a budget, but not all movies have to be totally amazing to do well.
“You’re Next” is certainly a change from the Sci Fi and Tween movies that we seem to be getting lately, it’s not for the faint of heart, but it is a film that may be one of those that may become a cult movie in years to come.
