So the news is in folks, Art-pop pioneers, 10cc, are taking their defining album Sheet Music on tour and it includes a a special video contribution by band co-founder Kevin Godley.
10cc are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of their album Sheet Music, which featured the top 10 hit The Wall Street Shuffle, the “Autumn Tour” will see 10cc embark on a 26-date theatre tour around the UK, starting on the 23rd September at Hall For Cornwall in Truro and ending at the Severn Theatre in Shrewsbury.
Led by 10cc co-founder Graham Gouldman, the band will do two sets at each concert, the first half of the evening comprising Sheet Music in its entirety, with a pause for the symbolic turning of the vinyl album.
Sheet Music was 10cc’s second album and was released in 1979, it made it to No 9 in the UK album charts and also entered in to the Top 100 in the US charts. The album is a master-class in the composition of popular music and typifies the eclecticism and remarkable invention that characterised the band’s earlier work, said to have influenced Freddie Mercury and Queen.
The second part of the concert features a broad spread of the band’s eleven Top 10 hits and more, including their three No 1s – I’m Not In Love, Dreadlock Holiday and Rubber Bullets.
The current line-up for the band, which has been together for more than 10 years, features Gouldman on vocals, bass and guitar; Rick Fenn (lead guitar, vocals), Paul Burgess (drums, percussion), Mick Wilson (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Mike Stevens (keyboards, guitar, sax, vocals). Rick and Paul have both worked with 10cc since the mid-‘70s line-up.
10cc have rocked some high-profile concerts recently including the O2, London with Status Quo, the Royal Albert Hall and the British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park.
Purveyors of some of the greatest pop records of the 20th century, 10cc has sold more than 15 million albums in the UK and 30 million worldwide. Such is the enduring nature of their music that movie-makers can’t resist including the band in soundtracks, with I’m Not In Love featuring in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and 2014 blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy, while Dreadlock Holiday was used in The Social Network (2010), about the founding of Facebook
10cc continue to work internationally with headline tours in Australia and New Zealand last autumn, a tour of Belgium and Holland in March, dates in Japan and summer shows in Denmark, Norway and Germany.
Meanwhile, Graham Gouldman has received particular recognition in the US for his songwriting work with 10cc and the hits he wrote for artistes such as The Hollies (Bus Stop), The Yardbirds (For Your Love) and Herman’s Hermits (No Milk Today). He has been inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame – an arm of America’s National Academy of Music, and awarded Icon status by Broadcast Music Incorporated.
