We’ve got some crazy s**t for you with today’s new film review, the new Sci-Fi Comedy, Alien Addiction is being released in the UK on October the 12th and I go the chance to check out the movie a little early!
OK, where do I go with this one, well for starters the cover itself had me intrigued with the strange “butt faced” looking aliens and the tagline “This is good s**t”, as many of you know I do like crazy and unusual movies, so Alien Addiction just had me chomping at the bit to check it out!
Alien Addiction follows Riko (Jimi Jackson) who lives in a small town in the middle of nowhere (Waikato, New Zealand). Life was pretty normal until two aliens crash-landed near Riko’s house. He welcomes the aliens and together they develop an intergalactic relationship of epic proportions. Alientologist Peter Mackintosh (Thomas Sainsbury) has tracked the aliens and Riko, and plans to capture them and reveal them to the world.
The movie is bonkers and very “adult” with the language content, sex, nudity and its overall feel, but that aside this New Zealand based comedy had me laughing out loud several times. It kind of reminded me of Peter Jackson‘s Bad Taste, which for me was one of my favourite low budget movies and Alien Addiction is now a close second to Jackson’s movie.
Not only do we have the antics of the main “earthlings” and what the crazy things they get up to, the film also has the Aliens doing some really bonkers stuff, look out for the first time the Aliens get high, but make sure you’re not eating at the time!
What I love about this indie film is that it is going to be one of those “Marmite” films, you either love it or hate it and I love it, as I’ve mentioned before it’s bonkers, but that aside the production of Alien Addiction is pretty good, the cinematography looks good, the soundtrack works very well and I love the aliens.
Throw into the mix of not only the Aliens and their human “dealer” but also the blogger and alien spotter that is on the hunt for Aliens discover Riko coming out of the alien craft and mistakes him for an alien and then thinks that there is an interstellar council meeting with Riko and his girlfriend Jacinta!
It’s great to see an Alien movie that is not about Alien’s invading and the Earth at peril and a war between humans and Aliens, Alien Addiction is such a light-hearted and funny movie, even the way the Aliens walk had me laughing out loud, Jimi Jackson’s character Riko works great with the things he gets up to with the two Aliens, look out for a scene where they go to a shop to disguise the aliens, they certainly look at home after.
Alien Addiction is certainly a refreshing change from a lot of the movies I’ve been watching during the lockdown and has brought a smile to my face. But if you are easily offended by lots of “toilet” humour then this may not be for you. Look out for the movie when it is released on Digital Download on the 12th of October.
