The highly anticipated crime thriller, Amongst the Wolves, directed by acclaimed Irish director Mark O’Connor, has been released today (2nd June) on all major digital platforms.
O’Connor, best known for Cardboard Gangsters and King of the Travellers, brings his trademark raw and authentic storytelling to Amongst The Wolves, delivering an unflinching look at the intense, gritty underworld of organised crime and the fragile loyalties that bind it together.
The visceral and gripping crime thriller stars Golden Globe® nominee Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones, Kin, Love/Hate), Luke McQuillan (Darklands, Game of Thrones), Jade Jordan (i), Louise Bourke (Let The Wrong One In), Helen Behan (This is England) and newcomer Daniel Fee.
Co-written by O’Connor and McQuillan, the film follows Danny, a homeless man on the streets of Dublin, grappling with the ghosts of his past, who finds himself caught in a cycle of despair and survival. Haunted by memories of his time serving in the Royal Irish Army in Afghanistan, Danny’s life takes a turn when he encounters Will, a young teenager on the run from a dangerous drug gang. Despite his own inner turmoil, Danny takes Will under his wing, forming a fragile yet profound bond with him. With Power and his ruthless gang closing in, Danny must confront his own inner demons and battle the demons of the past in order to protect Will.
Mark O’Connor’s debut feature film, Between the Canals, was highly acclaimed. Film Ireland called it ‘The best Irish film in a long, long time’. It started the career of actor Barry Keoghan, and it was released in cinemas.
Mark’s second feature film, King of the Travellers, received a UK and Irish cinema and DVD release.
Mark’s third feature film, Stalker, starred Barry Keoghan and John Connors. It won the Underground Film Festival and runner-up at the Galway Film Fleadh.
Mark’s fourth feature film, Cardboard Gangsters, was the highest-grossing Irish film of the year and received five-star reviews. It won six awards at the Manchester Film Festival, including best film. It won best film at the Newport Beach Film Festival in Los Angeles, and worldwide rights to the film were bought by Netflix globally.
Mark’s latest project was the six-part crime drama for Virgin Media UK/IreIand Darklands. It received critical acclaim and an average of 500,000 viewers per episode. It recently sold to Australian television. Amongst The Wolves is Mark’s fifth feature film.
