OK where to start with my review of Avengers Endgame, this has been one of the toughest reviews that I have ever written for a movie, mainly down to the film having so many moments that can only be described as spoilers!
The final movie for the Avengers is a movie that has taken us 11 years and 20+ movies to get to, we’ve been on one hell of a roller-coaster ride with Marvel’s superb movies that started with Iron Man and brought us the delights of Thor, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel and many more.
This has been a journey that has been a cinematic masterpiece of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), a journey that has brought so many beloved comic book characters to the big screen and boy have Marvel don it in such style and passion.
Along the way we have gone to distant worlds, travelled along the biofrost bridge of the Norse Gods and lost characters in times of war and Ultron! But nothing could prepare us with Avengers Infinity War when Thanos clicked his fingers in the Infinity Glove and so many of the characters we come to love were wiped out in seconds, many tears were flowing during that movie!
The question on everyone’s lips was how could Avengers Endgame continue on from Infinity War, how would the remaining Avengers cope with the loss of their comrades and loved ones! How would the world cope with so much loss and after Ant-Man and the Wasp what the hell would happen to Ant-Man!
As I mentioned earlier, this is such a hard review to write, so it’s going to be a fairly short one, with no spoilers to ruin the movie, Avengers Endgame needs to be seen without you knowing anything that will wreck this cinematic epic that even with a running time of just over 3 hours, maybe a movie that will test those with even the strongest bladders, that 3 hours races by so fast that you don’t even notice how long it’s been on for.
Avengers Endgame opens up at that moment at the end of Avengers Infinity War when the Thanos snap happens, right from the start of the movie the film hits you hard with the emotions, I found myself feeling very emotional and if this is how the movie was going to run, then I would certainly need the tissues in my pocket.
To be honest, that’s all I can give you without going down the road of the spoilers, but all I can say is that Avengers Endgame is a stunning movie, it’s one that has everything that the Marvel movies have brought us over the years that we love, the action, comedy, tears and a pure Adrenalin fuelled edge of the seat epic that had my heart racing and tears running throughout the movie.
Over the years since we were first introduced to that first movie with Iron Man, Marvel has gone from strength to strength, the special effects have become a staple diet of the franchise and Avengers Endgame has surpassed those special effects, you don’t see the movie as being laden in CGI, you forget about it and you feel that you in the movie with the remaining characters that survived Infinity War.
The RealD 3D used in Avengers Endgame is superb, those that read my movie reviews will know my love of the 3rd dimension and this film uses it very well, throughout Endgame you are pulled in with the RealD 3D, it’s use of depth is used brilliantly and it reminded me of the 3D of Avatar, with the moments that you wanted to put your hand up to touch the screen, now that is how 3D should be in a movie.
The story and the route it takes is a perfect continuation of Infinity War and it’s a film that is one that brings the Avengers to a conclusion that is worthy of being called an epic and a film that gets that high rating in my reviews. It has so many things that you can sit down and talk about with those have already seen it, sharing moments that may have surprised you during the viewing, Avengers Endgame is going to go down in history as a movie that had fans in tears watching in cinemas around the world and having everyone saying, “but what now? How can we go on with the MCU?“.
What Next For The Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Marvel have movies pencilled in for this year, 2020 and 2021, but it looks like we are moving onto a new phase, a new generation of comic book characters that we haven’t been introduced to in the movies since Iron Man in 2008, only time will tell, but we can be sure that we are going to be taking on more adventures with Marvel and I for one can’t wait to continue the journey with them at my local 3D cinema.
Avengers: Endgame The IMAX 3D Experience
I’m adding this section to my thoughts on the movie, because the other day, I got the chance to check out Avengers: Endgame in IMAX 3D and Cineworld in Broughton.
Those of you that read a lot of my reviews will know my love of 3D, so getting the chance to check out the movie in IMAX as well was something I couldn’t miss out on.
Avengers: Endgame is the second Hollywood film shot entirely with IMAX cameras! The first was Avengers: Infinity War, having the movie filmed with IMAX cameras brings the audience up to 26% more picture, which only IMAX can offer over standard theatres and you can tell when you watch the movies.
The Russo Brothers shot the Avengers: Endgame with IMAX cameras and with IMAX aspect ratio so the pristine images filled the entire screen – from the moment the film started until the last credit leaves the screen.
I have to say that seeing Avengers: Endgame in IMAX certainly brings more to the cinema experience and the extra scenery etc, add to that the third dimension and we have a movie that not only looks good in 3D on a standard cinema screen but looks stunning on an IMAX screen.
