Many of you that read the articles here on Blazing Minds will have seen me mention the 4DX that has come to Cineworld in Broughton, those amazing folk at the cinema kindly invited me over for a 4DX Gala Evening to check out the new installation and to watch the new Charlie’s Angels movie with the added experience of 4DX.
It was a very exciting night, most of you know how much I love cinema and the IMAX and RealD 3D, so the chance to check out the new 4DX screen at Cineworld was something I didn’t want to miss out on, so after having my name and my plus one put down on the guestlist the other day, I couldn’t wait for the night to come around to see what all the fuss was about with 4DX.
I picked up my niece on the way to Broughton and headed to Cineworld for the 4DX Gala Evening a tad early for the chance to grab a Gingerbread Latte from Starbucks, which is in the foyer, and prepared for what the immersive cinema experience would be like, at 6:30 we headed to the usher and waiting to be seating in screen one which has been converted to the new 4DX screen.
Upon entering the screen, the smell of the freshly laid carpet hit us, this is how I remember Broughton Cineworld when it first opened, that new smell that gave you the feeling of something new and exciting when you get to the bottom of the entrance aisle and turned right, the view of the 4DX seats is overwhelming, plus we had popcorn treats and a bottle of water.
The seats are raised from the floor and are in sets of four, with rope between the sets to stop you going through the gap, they are very different from the seats in the other screens, as I sat down I noticed two holes in the back of the seat, I wasn’t sure what they were for, but later on during Charlie’s Angels, I discovered they were blow holes! Each time a gun went off a blast of air was shot out depending on which side of the screen the action was happening!
One of the Cineworld team came into the audience and told us all that loose items of clothing should be put on the floor for safety reasons due to the movements from the seats during the screening.
After a brief introduction to the new screen, the trailers started and we were all surprised that even the trailers had the 4DX activated, starting with the new Jumanji film, the seats rocked and rolled, shook and vibrated all to the action on the screen, water squirted (don’t worry if you don’t like that you can turn it off on your chair) in the air and smoke was blown from the side of the screen and even flashes of light as if lightening was there with us in the screen, fans even produce air to make you feel like you are outside.
All this felt and looked amazing and then the trailer for the new Star Wars film came on, wow just wow, suffice to say it’s going to be an amazing experience on the big screen, the shifting of the seats during the space seats, the water during the crashing of the waves, all this is something that 4DX is what we’ve been waiting for in the area and thanks to Cineworld in Broughton we finally have it.
The film that we were treated to for the 4DX Gala Evening was the new Charlie’s Angels, but you’ll have to wait for my review on that one which will be up very soon, suffice to say there is so much happening during a 4DX film and strangely enough you don’t get distracted from the film with all the chair movements and more.

The 4DX screen in Cineworld at Broughton is now open, if you want to experience something a little more for your film trips then I highly recommend you give it a try, but please read the 4DX warnings in the foyer, 4DX can be very active! You do get thrown around a bit and if you suffer from nausea you may not be able to attend.
I must say a massive thank you to Cineworld for inviting me over to the 4DX Gala Evening and I can’t wait to be back again for the Anniversary release of Gremlins in 4DX along with Jumanji and of course Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker.
