Eric Reed dreamt of making music in a creative community. He yearned to surround himself with artists to inspire, and who could inspire him, as he pursued a vision that began taking shape when he was a boy playing the guitar, learning the cello, singing in a choir and hanging around recording studios in his hometown. Today, Eric is living out that dream in the famously artistic Los Angeles enclave of Venice, where he is one of the most familiar and dynamic presences on the local rock music scene.
Eric has put some of his most personal work into his new solo album “A Perfect Life”. With tracks like “Ain’t Enough” and “Crumbling Down” having a raw Nashville country-rock sound the album shows its versatility veering off into the blues as well as some heartfelt ballads ending with “Now I Have The Beat” a moody rock song. “You will hear a blend of all of my influences growing up from Rock, Country to Americana. So we’re sitting here in this horrible pandemic and as a working musician who puts out records and plays live shows I’ve been forced to face the music. I still haven’t lost my humor. I was thinking of how this covid19 affects my life as an artist. First of all my anxiety level is through the roof right now so that kind of sucks and as a guy who plays shows with 2 or 3 other people in my band I’ve been relegated to doing these live streams that have become so popular. They are great and fun and all but honestly it gets a little old after a bit. I live to play with others and that’s just not possible now or even in the weeks to come so like many other musicians because of this covid19 I’m trying to figure out things I can do to stay busy and still be productive with my music. I can write all day and have been pretty good about writing new songs but it’s still not enough. I’ve been fortunate to have some people on my team to work the PR part of it and it’s a great time for that since people are home on their computers but it seems as long as it’s a risk being in crowds then playing live venues is probably not happening anytime soon so trying to get on playlists, doing press, writing and live streams is about all I can do at the moment. With all that said I think we’re going to feel the effects of this for sometime however when it’s finally over I think Live shows are going to be bigger than ever and It’s a great opportunity to bring fresh music and different sets to our fans so my advice to other artists is to keep writing and finding creative ways to stay busy with music whether it be creating or doing live streams it’s all we’ve got right now.
