Chunky Larry is the charismatic producer and writer that has joined the Miami Fox Streaming team after being discovered bubbling away on TIKTOK with all the right ingredients to make the perfect stew. Larry, who has over 86K TikTok likes, has a strong wrought iron stomach for the hard stuff and you won’t find him flinching when it comes to the likes of the video nasty list – in fact, that’s his preferred Sunday digestive.
The Miami Fox Streaming trigger head is now going to give you the 401 on his loves, loathes and must-go-to’s, and it doesn’t include Care Bears… maybe a sprinkling of My Little Pony, but definitely not Tickle me Elmo.
Q. You are a Miami Fox Streaming figurehead. What gets you out of bed? [Remember PG 13 – No Blake Lively shit!]
That’s interesting and not something that really bounces around in my head when thinking of the why of it all. I think the best way to explain why I roll out of bed typically is a morbid curiosity of “what new game does the shit show have for me” I think what makes creators unique and ultimately enjoyable is getting a glimpse of how they see things. You get to experience the world through someone else’s eyes and I find that fascinating
Q. Your film curation is very extreme cinema. What attracts you to that genre? And what can we expect coming up on Miami Fox Streaming?
I am an advocate for the uncensored because I feel we don’t deserve to hold sway over someone else’s expression. I refuse to have my existence governed by people who died before I was born. There are certain things I find deplorable like murder, rape and pedophilia but it is not my place to tell someone that those real elements of our experience don’t belong in stories about our experiences. The people who can’t separate their reality from the fiction they consume deserve to get the help they require but those of us who can should not be punished or judged by the illness of ignorance
Q. You’re currently producing NOW… That’s What I Call Horror and your balancing that with your own show, podcast soon to air on Miami Fox Streaming, plus you have a norm-me job. How do you balance it all?
Oh that’s not all I’m doing, I also produce the SINISTER CREATURE CON every June and October in Sacramento California and I’m raising three boys. I honestly think the way I’m able to do it all and maintain a balance which isn’t always easy is by having to live with letting myself down for any of those things. I’m passionate about them all and passion sometimes means sacrificing sleep. We are given an opportunity everyday we wake up. 24 hours to do with what you will. Every hour spent scrolling or sleeping or playing video games is an hour lost to your ambitions. It ultimately depends on what’s most important for you.
Q. Outside of the genre, what type of movies do you enjoy?
I’m kind of all over the map with my interests. I’m more attracted to the story. You can find amazing stories in pro wrestling, tokusatsu specifically the sentai/Kamen rider of it all, animation and so many others. If a story makes you feel something it doesn’t matter it’s source.
Q. What attracts you to say Maniac over your standard slasher? Don’t say because they are standard. Hahaha?
Maniac stands apart from its contemporaries because of the performance of Joe Spinnell. You see clear as day that this was a film he had to get out of him. It was life or death for him. You look at the rest of William Lustig’s work and while there’s tremendous pictures he made (Vigilante being one of my favorite), he never made another film like Maniac. It’s a perfect storm of creativity from the special effects of Tom Savini, the haunting score of Jay Chattaway, the subversive gritty direction of Lustig and the once in a lifetime performance of Spinnell. There’s nothing quite like it
Q. Having to wear so many hats, can you suggest and advise people coming up through the ranks how best to manage their time?
Prioritize your time, ask yourself if you were to die tomorrow would you regret not having done that particular thing and if the answer is no it’s low priority. Find a group of people who support your ambition and inspire your creativity. I have been fortunate in my pursuit of whimsy to meet some of the most amazing and talented people. Sara who plays Aras in curations has been a constant source of motivation and inspiration but that’s just one of the countless people that have been in my corner when I needed to bounce an absurd idea off of. Kevin Smith once said “don’t surround yourself with why’s, surround yourself with Why not’s” and that’s something I hold onto
Q. How do you select the talking heads for NOW… That’s what I Call Horror, as they are very diverse and none of them share the same opinion?
I create goals that seem unattainable on the surface yet we manifest our reality. One of my goals as a horror fan was to be a talking head in a horror documentary, I feel in a sense that it justifies obsessing over this genre since I was literally a child. Through my journey of obsession I’ve been fortunate enough to meet brilliant minds who don’t always align with my personal outlook. Scott (yourun podcast) and I constantly get into verbal jousts over the genre and it is invaluable to me to constantly get new perspectives on something I’ve loved longer than I haven’t. I know how intelligent and charismatic people like Josh Levesque and Ian Van Ghoul are and I’m thrilled and excited for people who don’t to get to see them.
Q. Last but not least, you’re coming to the UK. Does that mean you will be filming some UK content for Miami Fox Streaming, and how can we find you outside of the Miami Fox bubble?
I don’t see a world where I’m in one of the most cinematic locations on the planet that I decide “let’s put the phone down and NOT create” lol. Outside of Miami Fox Streaming, I’m all over social media arguing and fighting for the horror genre to continue to thrive.
