In a new Blazing Minds Exclusive we are pleased to bring you the first look at the trailer for the surreal nightmare horror short ‘Wuurm‘ from co-writer Calum Syers and director Chris Wade.
On a dark and stormy UK night, BARRY WIGGLE, a sad, pathetic man living with his Mum has locked himself in his bathroom as he battles a squelching bout of painful stomach cramps.
As he tries desperately to convince himself that his stomach issues are just gas, deep down he knows that with every twist and squelch, his problems stem from one source.
Somewhere, somehow, poor Barry has picked up a narcissistic, sentient tapeworm whose only goal is to gaslight Barry, intending to spend the rest of its life tormenting him from the inside.
As the WUURM’s voice grows louder in Barry’s head, the more persuasive his words become. As Barry’s recent bout of toilet breaks are told in short, comedic flashback sequences, all that’s left to do is expel the parasite into the toilet bowl and engage in a fast-paced, battle to the death!
Made on a low/no budget – WUURM is a mishmash love letter to British soaps and sitcoms about sad, out-of-shape men, like Father Ted and Bottom; and the grimy, dark humour filled B-movies of Sam Raimi and early Peter Jackson.
Director and Co-Producer Chris Wade had the following to say about the film: “WUURM is a strange little horror-comedy project that’s been made in our spare time between other commitments. We’ve been slowly chipping away at it when we can, and are now pleased to share a short teaser trailer that we’ve pasted together; showcasing Barry (played by Geoff Sloan) in his most fragile moments. Of course, we’ve kept some surprises you’ll need to see the film for! This is a cheap 70’s inspired B-Movie through and through – with a dose of 90’s UK British sitcom thrown in, just to make it more confusing for people. We hope it finds a strange little place for itself within the short film community. WUURM is nearly complete and we will be entering it into a handful of short-film festivals this year, just in time for Halloween!”.
