So it was Cineworld Secret Screening 2 tonight that was open to non-Cineworld Unlimited Cardholders and there had been plenty of guessing what the film would be, but what a great surprise to get to see Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer a couple of days early. Find out more about Free Guy in RealD 3D 4DX.
It was an almost packed house at Cineworld in Llandudno and after a few issues with people getting the right seats as many of us had been moved due to the lifting of some of the Covid-19 regulations, it was time to settle down to the evening’s entertainment.

The lights dimmed, the screen faded to black and then the BBFC screen appeared with “Free Guy”, I have to say that it’s been a while since I’ve been to the cinema where people clap and shout yes when a film comes on. This was certainly a film that a lot of people have been waiting to see and Free Guy was a secret screening with no walkouts at all.
A bank teller (Ryan Reynolds) discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, after a chance encounter with Millie (Jodie Comer) he decides to become the hero of his own story. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way… before it is too late.

Free Guy is packed to the rafters with some fantastic effects and the usual Reynolds comedy, this is an action movie that has a “The Truman Show” feel to it but with a modern-day twist of technology of the internet and the world of online gamers.
As the movie progresses we are taken deeper into the game to discover that there is so much more going on than what we are first led to believe. Guy (Reynolds) develops his own unique A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) and the movie not only give us comedy, action and great effects but also takes us on a journey of something more.
Reynolds and Comer work brilliantly on-screen together as they find their way to the secret that Millie is looking for, along the way we have some great moments such as Channing Tatum as one of the characters that the real world controller is having an argument and you see the performance in the computer world.
Taika Waititi plays a character that you are going to love to hate, much like Reynolds he brings his style of humour to his performance and it was great to see him on the big screen and in the flesh rather than CGI, but hey I do miss Korg.
Joey Keery (Stranger Things) works well with his character called Keys, who is working for Antione (Waititi) but he is also trying to find out what is happening with the company and some code that may be hidden in Free City where Guy is running amuck and changing the flow of the online world.

There are some great cameos in the film as well and not only people, there are object and music cameos that had the cinema audience laughing out loud during the screening, brilliant. It’s so nice to see everyone getting back to the point of enjoying a great night out with others, especially after everything that has been going on.
This is a movie that we have all needed, plenty of fun and laughter.
I have to say a massive thanks to Cineworld for bringing us the movie a little early for the Secret Screening 2.
Free Guy RealD 3D + 4DX
UPDATE: Today (18/8/21) I got the chance to check out Free Guy in RealD 3D and 4DX and I have to say it absolutely blew me away, I really enjoyed the 2D version but the 3D in the movie is certainly some of the best I have seen in quite a while, the use of depth looks amazing and the heads up displays work brilliant in 3D and certainly pop.
Adding to the excitement of one of the most fun movies of the year so far in 3D is the 4DX, this is so active throughout the movie that you are taken on a rollercoaster ride through Free Town with every bump in the road and all the action that could possibly get thrown at you with the 4DX system.
If you have a cinema that is showing Free Guy in RealD 3D 4DX then I highly recommend you see the film in that format, it’s so much fun and you will certainly be taken into Guy’s world, well worth seeing.
Don't be the other Guy!
