“Pets Gracie and Pedro get separated from their owners during a move. They journey facing challenges, aided by owners’ viral song, encountering characters until reunited with Sophie and Gavin, finding way home.” 

The base story of this film lost pets trying to find their owners/homes, has been done a lot over the years. In virtually every case it has been done better than this as well, notably in Homeward Bound, and even Beverley Hills Chihuahua. 

Despite what can only be described as a starry voice cast this film is simply not great. The story is confused by itself, and most of the characters seem unsure of what they’re supposed to be doing.  For an animated film, this is such a bizarre thing that it only adds to its quality or lack thereof. 

The animation is really basic and not at all of a level that it should be for a cinema release feature film. At times it looks like a lower-budget episode of a show like Paw Patrol. The people have a sense of being not quite human and the animals, despite it seeming to go for some sense of realism, simply look fake. The worst is a vulture that looks like a glove puppet on an animated body. 

I genuinely dislike being negative on reviews but I legitimately can’t think of anything positive about this. Even the vocal performances feel like they were being phoned in, and it’s a shame because this could have been a good film….but it isn’t… 

It’s getting a 1.5/5. Young children might enjoy it but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else. 

Gracie and Pedro: Mission Impossible will make its way to UK cinemas from the 9th of August courtesy of Kaleidoscope Entertainment and stars Bill Nighy, Susan Sarandon, Alicia Silverstone, Danny Trejo and Brooke Shields.
