Manchester’s legendary Happy Mondays have announced a twenty-five date tour of the UK and Ireland for November and December 2017 with one of the dates out our local theatre, Venue Cymru in Llandudno.
The ‘Twenty Four Hour Party People – Greatest Hits Tour’ announcement comes on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Happy Mondays’ debut album ‘Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out)’.
The Happy Mondays’ work bridged the Manchester independent rock music of the 80s and the emerging UK rave scene, drawing influence from acid house, funk, and psychedelia to pioneer the Madchester sound. They experienced their commercial peak with the releases Bummed in 1988 and Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches (1990), with the latter going platinum in the UK. They disbanded in 1993, and have reformed several times in subsequent decades.
With the band going through four incarnations they still know how to pull in the crowds, so with the recent announcement, this is a tour that fans of the Happy Mondays will want to be part of, so make sure you are ready on the 15th March for the ticket pre-sale!
Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder said, “I am really looking forward to the ‘Mondays’ shows leading up to Christmas 2017. We’re performing better than ever and I love getting together with the band, blasting out all our great tunes we’ve made together over the decades. It’s gonna be great.”
Bez, the group’s dancer and percussionist, added, “Just as I thought it was all over, the party’s starting again. Look forward to seeing you all.”
The tour will begin on Tuesday, 14th November at Bristol’s O2 Academy and will end on Saturday, 23rd December at Glasgow’s O2 Academy. A ticket pre-sale will begin at 10.00am on Wednesday, 15 March, with tickets going on general sale at 10.00am on Friday 17th March.
