Matthew Gray Gubler in the zany comedy King Knight – Movie Review

Today on Blazing Minds we bring you a review of the new movie King Knight which has been released by Lightbulb Film Distribution and stars tarring Matthew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds, 500 Days of Summer), Angela Sarafyan (Westworld, The Immigrant) and Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, Jakob’s Wife).

Thorn is the leader of a coven of new-age witches. Life is good. But when a secret from his past comes to light, it forces him to take a trippy, journey of self-discovery.

King Knight starts with the animated opening of a book with a comical and serious-sounding voiceover before we are introduced to Thorn (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Willow (Angela Sarafyan) before everything starts to go wrong, the characters are introduced with Thorn telling us about them and images of them in what can be described as old style pictures.

King Knight Still

Life really couldn’t be better for Thorn and Willow, everyone in the coven is happy and content with their lives, and there is plenty of sex to go around as well or so it seems. But thanks to technology Willow discovers a damning piece of Thorn’s past that connects him to the unholiest of the unholy trinities that will possibly destroy their relationship.

The lies and deceit continue as Thorn lies to Willow about his mom (Barbara Crampton), who tries to put him in his place, shortly after Thorn tries to tell his coven the truth about his life before becoming their leader, but the coven really can’t cope with the truth coming out and banish him.

King Knight

Director and writer Richard Bates Jr. certainly brings us some brilliant and unexpected comedy moments with King Knight and also brings out some superb performances from Matthew Gray Gubler and Angela Sarafyan and it’s great to see Barbara Crampton as Thorn’s mom.

Barbara Crampton in King Knight

The dark comedy isn’t going to be for everyone, but King Knight is one of those movies that deserves a viewing, OK it’s not the best movie in the world, but Bates Jr. has brought us a dark comedy that works and it works well for the story and the characters. Look out for some out-of-this-world animation sequences and Thorn having a conversation with a pine cone and rock, no seriously!

If you fancy something a little different and maybe weird, you’ll never think of Matthew Gray Gubler’s Dr Reid in Criminal Minds then same ever again, then certainly check out King Knight when comes to digital download in the UK from the 8th of August.
