A few years ago we brought you a review of the fantastic Life After The Navigator, today we bring you excellent news about Lisa Downs‘ latest in the ‘Life After’ series, Life After The Neverending Story.
“The NeverEnding Story” is a classic fantasy film released in 1984 and directed by Wolfgang Petersen. Based on the novel of the same name by Michael Ende, the movie weaves a captivating tale that seamlessly blends reality and fantasy. The story follows a young boy named Bastian, who discovers a magical book that tells the epic tale of a young warrior named Atreyu (played by Noah Hathaway) on a quest to save the mystical land of Fantasia from an encroaching force known as “The Nothing.”
As Bastian (Barret Oliver) reads the book, he becomes increasingly drawn into the enchanting world of Fantasia, where he discovers the power of imagination and the importance of overcoming fears. Lisa Downs, a filmmaker from the UK, has credited movies like The NeverEnding Story for shaping her childhood. Her love for nostalgia and filmmaking intertwined, leading to the creation of the “Life After Movies” documentary series. In 2019, the first documentary of the series, LIFE AFTER FLASH, was released, focusing on the iconic film Flash Gordon. The second documentary, LIFE AFTER THE NAVIGATOR, was released in 2020, celebrating the legacy of Randal Kleiser’s Flight of the Navigator. The third documentary in the series is out now and I checked out the Blu-ray of the release, I have to say that this is another stunning documentary from Lisa Downs, The NeverEnding Story has always been a love of mine since seeing in the cinema back in the 80s and now to have such a heartfelt piece of work that shows so much more about the cast and movie in-depth is such a joy to watch.
The interviews are down to Earth and are a fascinating watch with wonderful insights into the movie from the cast and crew, it’s great to see how the cast looks now and what became of them after the film was released.
Life After The NeverEnding Story is a well-crafted documentary that shows the passion that Lisa Downs and the Life After team have for the films that they bring these feature documentaries about and this one is certainly worth adding to the collection of great film documentaries.
