I headed out to Cineworld recently to finally see the new film Love Hurts starring Ke Huy Quan, the film has had some mixed and negative reviews since its release but I thought I would check it out for myself and bring you my thoughts on the film.
A realtor is pulled back into the life he left behind after his former partner-in-crime resurfaces with an ominous message. With his crime-lord brother also on his trail, he must confront his past and the history he never fully buried.
OK with Valentine’s Day almost upon us, we seem to have a couple of films that are set around this time of year, such as Heart Eyes and Love Hurts! After seeing Ke Huy Quan in the fantastic Everything Everywhere All A Once I was looking forward to seeing Love Hurts.
I’d only seen the teaser trailer, I loved what I saw, but then the reviews started coming out and I have to say I didn’t read them but heard the negativity for the film. But with a lot of films, it’s nice for us to make up our minds and what someone doesn’t like someone does. I always say with the reviews I write here on Blazing Minds, you have to remember these are my thoughts and it’s up to you to make up your own mind about a film.
But I have to say I enjoyed Love Hurts, there were so many moments that I was laughing at some of the very well-choreographed action sequences that looked amazing. This is a film that is not completely flawless and it does have some issues, but it’s fun and that’s part of going to see a film in the cinema is to enjoy yourself.
It’s great to see Ke Huy Quan on the big screen again, especially in an action movie in which he takes the lead in the film, it is a little hard at times to forget that he was the young star of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, but this film shows that he can certainly bring us some great comedic moments and show us that he can take on the action role.
The cast all take on their roles well and in particular, I loved the character Rose (played by Ariana DeBose) who brings something a little different to the love interest in the film.
Director Jonathan Eusebio who has credits for stunts on The Fall Guy, Black Panther and the amazing John Wick has certainly brought some of his expertise to directing the fight sequences which are very polished and do look good with that Jackie Chan style choreography.
Dominic Lewis’ music works great throughout the film and if you recognise the name he brought us more great music in Violent Night and Bullet Train.
Love Hurts is not going to be for everyone, but if you fancy a bit of silliness and some excellent fight sequences then this is a film that is worth checking out.
