Movie Review: UFOLOGISTS a Mockumentary of the Cornwall UFO Watchers

My first introduction to Raun (Jason Gregg) and Gorran (Steven Powell) was at Sci-Fi Weekender SFW XIV when they brought us a look at their mockumentary UFOLOGISTS which sadly I missed as I was running around covering loads of stuff, now the film is available to watch for free.

In the film, documentary filmmaker Ellie Thornton (Mel Hayward) has made the Cornwall UFOLOGISTS the subject of her latest documentary film, she tracks down the team of UFO watchers and hopes to get an exclusive story out of them about their experiences with aliens and UFOs.

Ellie meets up with ex-RAF man and team leader Percival (Derek Frood), serial alien abductee Gorran (Steven Powell), wheelchair-bound David (Paul Henshall) who believes he could be the next Stephen Hawking with his knowledge of the stars and designer of bizarre tech, and Raun “Starman” (Jason Gregg) to film them in Cornwall to film their journey to tell the world about the UFIO hotspot that is Cornwall. They always seem to come up empty-handed along the way, with no proof of alien life or any evidence that UFOs have indeed been visiting Earth.

The film is as bonkers as it sounds and as I mentioned earlier my first introduction to the guys was at Sci-Fi Weekender and back then I thought are these guys for real or are they characters that are completely out there? The characters are completely out there in a world of their own, this works well for the documentary-style film.

Raun (Gregg) and Gorran (Powell) certainly have a weird outlook on the world and this is where the dry humour doesn’t have you laughing out loud but rather has you giggling to yourself with some of the comments that characters deliver on screen. Of course, with anything that is based around aliens, there are those witty remarks about anal probing that are something that will leave you wide-eyed.

Jason Gregg has brought us a fun film that really pokes fun at itself and it works well, I must mention the soundtrack for the film which is by James Oliver Coulthard which I enjoyed listening to and it added to the atmosphere and the style of the overall production of UFOLOGISTS.

The cast works well together in the production, it certainly gives a chance to see something a little different and although UFOLOGISTS may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it will bring a smile to most people’s faces.
