Arriving at the Rhyl Little Theatre on Friday, the excitement was building for Rhyller Thriller 4.
This year’s weekend of celebrating horror films and filmmaking started off at 12 p.m., with the first few shorts starting at 1 p.m. The opening film from Mycho Films, titled Pethau Bychain (Little Things), starring Asher Chan, was a great opening with creepiness and a rather unexpected jump at the end.
The following films in the shorts included NO SCRUMPING, DISPOSABLE, GOD SQUAD, and SUBMERGED.
After a short break at 2 p.m., we went back into the films with two Welsh classic horrors: Gwaed ar y Sêr (Blood on the Stars) & O’r Ddaear Hen (From the Old Earth), followed by a Welsh Horror Talk that offered wonderful insight into filmmakers who make films in Wales and in the Welsh language.
A group of us popped up to the Queen’s Market for a bite to eat before heading back to the Rhyl Little Theatre to end the evening.
To delight horror fans, the brilliant The Witch by Robert Eggers had a screening, which I have to say is a superb film from Eggers and one of my favorites of his.
The last film of the evening was the premiere screening of Weedkiller, a comedy-horror from writer and director Tom Hughes. The film was shot on VHS-C tape as a tribute to 1980s and 1990s shot-on-video (SOV) B-movies.
Drinks and socializing ended the evening of a successful first day of Rhyller Thriller 4 at the Rhyl Little Theatre.
Rhyller Thriller 4 is on until Sunday evenings so there’s still a chance to support this superb event.
