The call has gone out for those of you with a flair for stand-up comedy as a new open mic night is coming to Saronies at the Scala Cinema in Prestatyn.

Since the Scala has been taken over by the new owners, it is going from strength to strength, not only are people enjoying the screenings of some of the great movies that are being shown in the two screens that the cinema has, but since the refurbishment of the restaurant area upstairs, know as Saronies, more and more events are happening in the venue, such as the SPECTRE premiere for a Cocktails and Mocktail evening.

The aptly called “The Saronies Sessions” will be taking place on Sunday the 6th March at 7pm and the organiser of the event, Sarah Roberts is looking for people who would like to join in the fun.

It doesn’t matter if you are new to Stand-Up or whether you have performed for a while, this is the place to be seen and to get involved for what is bound to be the start of a popular event.

The Saronies Seesions at the Scala, Prestatyn

We caught up Sarah Roberts and had a chat about the upcoming shows.

KW: What made you decide to put together “The Saronies Sessions”

Sarah: We felt that North Wales is very under represented in stand-up comedy, and having visited the Scala on many occasions, knew that Saronies was an ideal venue. We had been to Poetica in Bangor, an open mic for poets, and felt that this was the perfect template for The Saronies Sessions, so we decided to launch our own event in Prestatyn.

KW: What do you think the shows are going to bring to Prestatyn?

Sarah: Having the event in Prestatyn will bring a much-needed genre of entertainment to the mid section of the North Wales coast. The event will hopefully bring a new spark to the entertainment scene of the area.

KW:  Is this the first time that you have organised an event such as this one?

Sarah: I guess it’s the first time for organising this scale of event, though there are two of us and we both have experience in the media.

KW: What advice would you give to anyone that wants to take part?

Sarah: Our advice to anyone wishing to attend is that it will be a very friendly and positive evening. Standup can be nerve-racking but we are determined that the vibe of the evening will be inclusive and encouraging of all levels of experience, age and gender. Heckling will be discouraged, and the best opportunity to succeed and progress will be offered to all. For those in the audience, the evening will include a selection of stand up comedy, spoken word, and acoustic music, with food and refreshments available from the Saronies own restaurant kitchens.

KW: Will you be taking part yourself?

Sarah: Nia will be the host and compere, she will also be acting as the evenings warm up for the line up. I will be on hand to stand in as a stand up, I will also be there in my capacity as house elf and general hench person.

KW: Thank you Sarah

The Saronies Sessions will be dedicated to the art of Stand-Up as well as spoken word and the chance for musicians to perform an acoustic set to the audience, the monthly event will start on the

If you would like the chance to try your material in a friendly, positive and inclusive atmosphere then this is certainly going to be an event that you will love then you can contact Sarah or Nia on 07773195010.
