Stockport Unleashed Geeks and Nerds arrive for another Comic-Con
It was an early start on Sunday morning, as I headed over to Stockport for my first time at Stockport Unleashed, a small Comic-Con that be small, but it certainly packs in a great selection of traders at the Stockport County Football Club.
Stockport Unleashed is the 3rd Stockport’s Comic-Con, the event may not have had a huge amount of celebrity guests, but the event made up for this with the traders that were at the event to bring their work to the Stockport people.
The event that took place on Sunday, November 5th, 2017, included Colin Baker (The 6th Doctor, Doctor Who), Pam Rose (Star Wars, Space 1999, Batman, Superman) and Dan Whitehead (Author), Colin Baker gave a talk to the audience about his time as the 6th Doctor and Pam Rose, not only signed and chatted with people, but she also mingled with people as she walked around the event checking out the various trader’s stalls.
Although the venue is small-ish, over 50 trader’s stalls packed into the venue with traders offering Comics, Graphic Novels, Books, T-Shirts, Apparel, Toys, Collectables, Art, Jewellery, Props, Autographs, Retro & New Gaming.
With all these types of events, the Cosplayers made a brilliant effort to mingle with the public, one cosplayer I was very excited to meet was Andy Turner, who was cosplaying as a rather brilliant Julian Slink from Blood Drive, it is so nice to see someone taking on Colin Cunningham’s Slink at an event and I’ve been itching for someone to attempt it for a while.
Andy did so well at Stockport Unleashed that he won “Cosplay of the Day” in the cosplay competition and he was the winner of a custom engraved glass from Amazengrave and well deserved, what a brilliant cosplay as Mr Slink.
Other Cosplayer included Jason Vorhees, Ned Flanders and much more.
It was great to catch up with the brilliant “Find The Fudge-Man” at the event, who I always head to when I know he’s at events for his delicious Red Habanero fudge and of course to have a chat with, it was a lovely surprise to see him at Stockport Unleashed.
With so many traders to visit and Cosplayers to chat to there were also other attractions to keep everyone busy throughout the day, these included Next Level Entertainment, Doctor Bell’s Green Screen Photography, Harry Potter wand flying photo opportunities, Platform 9 3/4 set from Harry Potter, The Shooting Range, Marvel Car Experience, The Superheroes Cosplay Group, LifeSize Bat-Pod, Costume Characters, Table Top Gaming
and of course the Costume Contest.
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Stockport Unleashed, it was a well organised and fun event to attend, the crew behind the event have done a great job and it’s certainly one that I would recommend to those that haven’t been to a Comic-Con event before or would just like something not so big and too much to try and see in a day.
Good things sometimes come in small packages and Stockport Unleashed packed a mighty punch from the small venue, great fun for all ages.
