Take pART10 Announces Guests and More for 2019
We’ve had the news in that there will be a HUGE arts and science weekend for children and young people will return to Llandudno next year for Take pART10
take pART10 is an annual arts and science weekend, now in its 10th year, for 0 to 18-year-olds and their families. The largest event of its kind in Wales, there will be hundreds of individual workshops, drop-in sessions, masterclasses and performances taking place under one roof at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, on 12 and 13 January.
take pART10 is mainly free of charge to join in, as it aims to encourage people from all walks of life to participate without the normal barrier of cost preventing them from attending.
This year the event is funded by Arts Council of Wales Lottery, Conwy County Borough Council, Llandudno Town Council and Conwy Arts Trust, with Horizon Nuclear Power sponsoring the main Arts & Science Tent.
Sarah Ecob, Artistic Programmer of take pART told us, “take pART10 is an exuberant explosion of creativity that brings a smile to everyone’s faces in January. I’m very excited to be programming take pART again and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to Venue Cymru to celebrate our 10th year.”
Cllr Louise Emery Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development has some good advice for those that may have missed the event last year, “If you’ve missed the last 9 years, make this the year to attend! Beat that wet and cold January weekend and immerse your children into the world of art, design, writing, poetry, animation, dance, music, circus skills….the list goes on. See you there!”
The programme for the weekend is still being finalised, but confirmed highlights will include Oscar®-winning Aardman characters, ‘Wallace and Gromit’. Senior model maker Jim Parkyn will be leading Gromit model making sessions and children will also have the opportunity to make their own model of ‘Hognob’ from the studio’s latest animated film ‘Early Man’.
Aardman will also be leading storyboard sessions, with budding artists getting the chance to create their own storyboard and learn how pencil drawings can be used to create an ‘animatic’ – the animated storyboard used to bring drawings to life.
Jim Parkyn, Aardman Senior Model Maker, told us, “Having bought many of Aardman’s characters to life at Venue Cymru for the last 3 years I am thrilled to be there to celebrate 10 years of creativity and storytelling! Coming to Llandudno is a great way to kick off the year and a unique art experience that keeps me wanting to return for more.”
Other highlights include Spark! drummers back by popular demand, to wow audiences with their live music, movement and lighting spectacular and the S4C shows ‘Cyw’ and ‘Rownd a Rownd’ who will be bringing some TV magic to the weekend.
Welsh National Opera will be doing ‘Access All Arias’, introducing new, young audiences to popular opera pieces with appearances by members of the WNO chorus. The talented youngsters who sing with WNO Youth Opera will be performing on the arena stage and there will also be taster sessions for the Youth Opera.
Guardian cartoonist Harry Venning will be leading cartoon workshops and acting as take pART10’s ‘cartoonalist’ for the weekend – recording the festival’s highlights in cartoon form, whilst ‘Only Boys Aloud’ North Wales, the all-boys choral group, will be giving a rousing performance in the arena.
Local schools are also joining in the take pART10 fun through a special bunting competition. They are working in conjunction with Dylan’s Restaurant in Llandudno to make birds out of recycled plastic, which will be used to decorate the interior of Venue Cymru for the weekend.
