I had eagerly anticipated the release of the new movie featuring Art the Clown at my local Cineworld. After watching a double bill and being teased by the Terrifier 3 trailer some time ago, I was thrilled when the movie finally arrived. Yesterday, it felt like Christmas had come early as I went to watch the latest movie in the franchise. In this film, Art the Clown once again unleashes chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.
After surviving Art the Clown’s Halloween massacre, Sienna (Lauren LaVera) and her brother (Elliott Fullam) struggle to rebuild their shattered lives. As the holiday season approaches, they try to embrace the Christmas spirit and leave the horrors of the past behind. But when they think they’re safe, Art the Clown returns, determined to turn their holiday cheer into a new nightmare. The festive season quickly unravels as Art unleashes his twisted brand of terror, proving that no holiday is safe.
Those who have become fans of the Terrifier franchise will know what to expect from the movies with plenty of blood, guts and gore to go around to make even the seasoned horror fans feel a tad queasy from the physical effects that are probably some of the best that you will see on the big screen in recent years.
Terrifier 3 is no exception and director/writer Damien Leone has proven yet again that fans can’t get enough of David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown and the pure 80s video nasty style production that has had people leaving the cinemas feeling ill, but putting aside the gore, this is a movie that is something that the cinemas have needed to bring people back to the screens and to show appreciation for some brilliant filmmaking techniques and production.
It’s great to see the story continuing from the previous movie and see the ongoing saga of Sienna (LaVera) and Jonathan (Fullam) coming up against the clown who could certainly give Pennywise a run for his money. I would go so far as saying that for me Art the Clown is much more terrifying than Pennywise or any other clown in a horror movie. The beauty in Art is the silence, David Howard Thornton has made the character his own, the evil mime easily sends chills down your spine with not only his brutal slayings during Terrifier 3 but also sets you at unease with his facial expression and movement. I’ll never look at another Santa the same!
Lauren LaVera is brilliant yet again as Sienna and I have to say if she doesn’t get an award for this movie I will be surprised and deeply saddened, she is put through the wringer in Terrifer 3 with plenty of gory moments and is covered in fake blood, plus a prominent slap out of the blue from Art!
We don’t get so much from Elliot Fullam in the movie but it was great to see him return as Jonathan and see how the character had tried to move on since the last outing with Art.
The battle of good versus evil certainly comes to a climax in Terrifer 3 and we are treated to more screen time for Victoria Heyes (Samantha Scaffidi), I was so glad that the character made a return and we get to see the superb makeup effects that make Victoria a terrifying character in her own right.
If you are a little squeamish or are easily scared then this is a movie that you may want to see from behind your fingers or take someone with you who can lead you out of the cinema when it gets too much. But if you are a big horror fan like myself and enjoyed the horror of the first two films then I highly recommend you see this movie on the big screen. If you do love the practical and gore effects then look out for the shower scene!

In other news, Terrifer 3 has broken UK independent distributor Signature Entertainment’s record for its largest-ever opening weekend at the UK & Ireland box office with a £1,049,000 total. This chainsaws through their previous record of Orphan: First Kill’s £464,616 opening gross in 2022.
