LONDON ANIMATION COMEDY TEAMS WITH CANADIAN INDIE DEVS TO BREAK INTO GAMING WITH “BUST-A-DOOR”
Brit cult comedy cartoon rascals The Bruvs have entered the world of gaming thanks to a “whack-a-mole” style venture created in tandem with Canadian indie studio GremlinWorx Entertainment.
The Bruvs’ cartoon series features a family of London villains trying to mend their ways. Generally, they fail – thanks to brothers Doug and Den Bruv, the new leaders of the family firm. Their short fuses and aggressive nature mean things usually end up with the brothers turning on each other.

More than 40 cartoon films now sit on The Bruvs’ Youtube channel and feature on their Twitter and Facebook sites. The crooks also feature in original songs, music and audio comedy sketches on The Bruvs’ Soundcloud site.
Whether they’re visiting a new dentist, a gallery, a bank or celebrating Hallow’een or Christmas, things usually end badly.
Typical for The Bruvs, a baseball bat features as Doug Bruv makes his way to a front door. Players are then presented with a range of targets on the door to hit and break their way in – or Bust the door.
The free game will have in-game advertising and further mini-games are planned.
Eventually, it is hoped to morph the game into an idle play game and use it as a way to introduce more people to the cartoon characters and story as well as tell new and unique ones through the game medium.
This is the first collaboration between The Bruvs’ creator Ian Brown and the Canadian-based indie developers Gremlinworx Entertainment Limited.
“I was thrilled to hear from Gremlinworx and we’ve enjoyed working with them – especially their enthusiasm for the project and what might be achievable in the future,” adds Brown.
Currently the game is being given a thorough testing in its Beta mode and feedback is welcomed.
“We want to get it right and we want to develop this idea much further,” says Brown. “The Gremlinworx team are fans of The Bruvs and we’re fans of what they can do. It’s a whole new area for us and it’s very exciting.”
Gremlinworx started up this year and is based in Toronto, Canada. Like The Bruvs, it operates with a small, flexible team. Their previous output includes Bat Buster and the studios flagship game, code named Project Gremlins. Their content is developed by a range of talented individuals, using a variety of professional tools, the core of which is Unity3D and the powerful Unity Editor. The team believes Unity offers so much in the way of development freedoms, from the Unity Asset Store to the additional packages that empower developers with tools that are just incredible.
The actual programming is done in Microsoft Visual Studio, utilizing the C# programming language. The studios’ two talented and dedicated artists make use of tools like Blender, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Bust-A-Door has been created as an a-typical “time-buster” game.
Bust-A-Door v0.95 is now available to play as part of an Open Beta test run on Google Play. Update v0.96, expected to release in the next few days, will focus on delivering a stable release to iOS users.
Leaving room for more development to accommodate good user feedback was always the plan. There are further features of the game to be unleashed as well.
