I was very excited and felt extremely lucky to be given the chance of reviewing The Parapod – A Very British Ghost Hunt. Due for release in cinemas in on the 7th of September, and on VOD 27th September. As an avid fan and part sceptic on the supernatural and paranormal, I was very intrigued by the content of what this film was about to unfold before my eyes.
I had not heard of these guys before this movie, to be honest, and I am now a keen podcast listener of theirs. It is great to see that a movie has been made out of a podcast, and is in the best possible taste.
After 3.5 million podcast downloads, sold-out live shows and hit specials, it is now time to get ready to embark on a journey in a “pimped up” hearse, I won’t tell you how it is “pimped up”, you will have to find out yourself, and watch the movie. But I can guarantee you that you start properly laughing from the start.
The Parapod a supernatural phenomenon
Ian Boldsworth is a hard-wired sceptic, and he is finding all kinds of explanations to explain what has happened in each destination that they visit. Barry Dodds is a lifelong believer, and during the movie, he goes head to head with Ian to find out the truth about the supernatural phenomenon.
The duo visits various places consisting of a haunted village, the home of the worlds most violent poltergeist, the underground labyrinths of Edinburgh, and everywhere else in between throughout the UK.
The Parapod movie goes through a lot of conflicts, and absolute hilarity. It does seem to keep you on your toes throughout. Barry becomes desperate throughout the movie, and he is desperate for some sort of evidence to convince Ian that there are supernatural entities out there.
I found the film playing and toying with my beliefs, and could genuinely see both sides of their arguments, to be honest. The guys themselves go through a rollercoaster ride of their feelings and beliefs and non-beliefs in the supernatural.
This film was directed by the star that is hard-wired sceptic Ian Boldsworth, and is super excited for the release, quoted as saying, “The sell-out preview of January 2020 in London’s Leicester Square rather cruelly tricked me into believing this arduous journey of listening to Barry’s ghost nonsense had an end in sight. In March 2020, two dates into the UK screening tour, it was clear that the universe had other ideas. So I am truly delighted that this unique film is finally going to be witnessed by others, and I can get the sympathy I deserve for putting myself through this supernatural bombardment.”
Co-star Barry Dodds, the believer, also cannot wait for the release saying, “After what has felt like (and literally has been) years of waiting for the wider world to see the film which dominated so much of our working lives. It is a real pleasure to know that it finally will be out there for the world to see. It is a very unique experience to hear oneself in the grip of mind-bending fear, but I hope both sceptics and believers will take something away from this film, hopefully, something different to what they brought to it”.
I agree with Barry and would say, you can make your own mind up once you have watched it. I did begin to question my own beliefs and took on board both points of view from Ian and Barry.
Really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen, and was very impressed by the movie.
