The Seven kicks off in 1968, with a group of red-caped, mask-wearing, devil worshippers are preparing for sacrifice organics by their leader played by Dean Cain, as they are about to perform the sacrifice they are caught in a fire, we then leap forward to modern-day where a college has been built on the remains.
60 Years ago a group of Devil worshipers died in a mysterious fire which burnt their mansion down to the ground. Now years later a college stands on the site where the mansion once stood. Victoria is a pole dancer who has fallen in love with a boy Harry 5 years her junior and still at college. She has decided that she wants one night of passion in the arms of her love and if the age gap means he can’t provide that then she will dump his sorry behind. Harry, with the help of his friend Luke, knowing that his relationship with the hottest girl his ever seen could end, sets about creating the ultimate romantic night in their college.
However, Victoria’s friends hear about Harry’s ridiculous plans and plot to sabotage the evening’s events. THE SEVEN all turn up at the college but unfortunately end up getting locked in by the ‘live-in caretaker’ Squeaky. Squeaky is an odd Character who pushes his wobbly wheeled cart around the college cleaning up after all the students. There are many urban myths based around Squeaky (Dave Courtney) but nobody knows the truth about his history, the fact that he is the only survivor from the mansion fire makes him even more mysterious.
I have to say that the opening scenes from 1968 looked great on Amazon Prime in 1080P HD with the bright red of the capes which worked very well with the use of colour in the dark forbidding scenes as the devil worshippers carry their victim to the basement of the old house.
After the modern-day introduction of the cast The Seven, the film turns darker with most of the film moving into night time scenes as they spend the night in the collage, suffice to say strange things start to happen, such as a bottle moving on its own and a sink filling up with blood, that reminded me of the scene in the new version of IT.
The Seven is a pretty slow-moving film, as the group of college students and exotic dancer spend the night together, it’s not really until they start messing about with a Ouija board that things start getting a little more unnerving for them as they ask questions to shockingly discover who they are talking too via the board.
I was hoping that The Seven would be a bit of a slasher, back from the dead, horror especially with the subject content of the devil worshippers, but although we know that the students are bound to be picked off one by one, the film didn’t have the shock moments that I was hoping for, which is a real shame.
The cast all work well together and it was great to see Amar Adatia in the movie who many will recognise from EastEnders and Amar, Akbar & Tony that we reviewed here on Blazing Minds some time back.
As I mentioned earlier I loved the way the opening of The Seven was shot and that does seem to be the most colourful part of the film, I was hoping to see more of Dean Cain on The Seven but sadly not, but putting that aside, it’s not a bad independent movie to watch and if you have Amazon Prime you get to watch it for free as part of the package.
