There is a mix of movie genres and a documentary on my list for the Top 10 Movies of 2022, it’s been a bit of a weird one for me over the last 12 months with many personal issues reducing the number of times that I have been to the cinema, so this year’s list contains some releases that I have caught after release on the streaming networks.
Top 10 Movies of 2022
Everything Everywhere all at Once
An ageing Chinese immigrant is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save what’s important to her by connecting with the lives she could have led in other universes. This was a movie that I wasn’t sure about going in to see the film, but it completely blew me away right from the start. Check out my review of Everything Everywhere All at Once.
RRR
This was one of those movies that I sadly missed when it came to the big screen, but as soon as I saw that the movie was on Netflix I had to check out this 185-minute epic and I wasn’t disappointed by the movie, it’s certainly one that has everything you could want from its genre. Well worth checking out on the streaming platform if you have it.
Top Gun: Maverick
A film that must be one of the longest-awaited sequels! I went to see the original movie back in the cinema in the 80s and loved it, then when the sequel came along I couldn’t wait to see it. I managed to get to review the film in IMAX which was amazing, then took my nephew to see it in 4DX, then popped to see it again when Cineworld brought us a double bill of both movies.
The Batman
I’ve been a fan of the DC character since I was young and up until this point Tim Burton’s Batman had always been a firm favourite. Then this film came along with its dark and sinister take on the character and unlike other movies, we moved away from the back story of Bruce Wayne and into year 2 as The Batman took on the Riddler. The Sound of 007 (Documentary)
James Bond has always been a stable diet on Bank Holiday Mondays on TV and Daniel Craig certainly brought us some amazing years as 007. But one thing over the years that has stood out with all the Bond movies has been the music and this documentary was a fantastic watch to go behind the Sound of 007. Well worth checking out if you have Amazon Prime Video.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Yes it did have mixed reviews and it’s probably become of those “Marmite Films”, but overall I really enjoyed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it was another of those films that really seemed to work better in IMAX with its E.A.R. (Expanded Aspect Ratio) scenes that really brought that Marvel Multiverse to life.
Avatar: The Way of Water
The excitement was building for this release after seeing the first movie back in the cinema and in a new 4K remastered IMAX release, so when I got the chance to review Avatar: The Way of Water in IMAX 3D I really hoped that the film wouldn’t be a let down after hyping myself up and thankfully it wasn’t. Now we just have to wait for 3,4 and 5 to come along!
Elvis
I do enjoy Baz Luhrman films and ELVIS certainly had a lot of people talking about it and how Austin Butler pulls off the role as the King of Rock and Roll, I have to say that the film was a great watch, a tad long but the cast certainly kept the content flowing nicely.
Violent Night
Now, this is one of my favourite Christmas films of recent times, I can only describe it as a cross between Die Hard and Home Alone and damn it works brilliantly. There is plenty of action, comedy and nods to Die Hard in the film. If you are always on the lookout for that alternative Christmas film then this is certainly one you want on your list, not for the kids to watch though.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
This sequence to the brilliant Knives Out just managed to make it to my list as I finally caught it on Netflix recently. Daniel Craig reprises his role as Benoit and heads to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery surrounding a tech billionaire and his eclectic crew of friends. If you have Netflix and you are a fan of Knives Out then Glass Onion is well worth checking out.

My Movie Stats According to Letterboxd
So I thought as well as the top 10 movies of 2022 I would take a look into my movie stats thanks to the amazing Letterboxd which allows me to log the movies/documentaries that I watch and to add my ratings and reviews.
According to the site, I have watched 878.9 hours throughout 2022 which boils down to 481 movies watched, it appears that my top genres have been Action, Thriller and Horror.
My most-watched include Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Judi Dench, Andy Serkis and Anthony Daniels.
When it comes to the movies and the directors, according to Letterboxd my top-watched directors include We Anderson, Stephen Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Gerald Thomas and John Carpenter.
My most liked review was for Death on the Nile and the most liked list was for the fantastic Love, Death + Robots Volume 3. Films that I watched more than once include The Unbearable Weight of Massive talent, The Crow, Top Gun: Maverick, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Death on the Nile all watched 3 times in 2022.
I also enjoyed Shocktober this year and continued the lists on my Letterboxd with a list of films watched throughout October, it was a fairly busy month of watching horror genre films including comedy horrors and I ended up with a list of 51 watched films throughout Shocktober 2022.
I did slack on my Cineworld-watched films this year and managed 64 films, although there are a few that I went to see more than once thanks to having a Cineworld Unlimited Card, hopefully, I can beat that next year and manage the magic 100!
Now that the end of 2022 is almost upon us it’s time to get ready for more great films in 2023 I’ve already lined up the Cineworld Unlimited screenings for January and am making notes of upcoming release dates to make sure I’m available to get those first day showings. No doubt I’ll also continue to bring you reviews of some of the IMAX releases that hit the screens.
