The basic idea of Werewolf Game is of a bunch of strangers being kidnapped to an out-of-the-way location and forced to play a game of survival, which is a solid premise. The only issue is that it has been done so many times before, and more often than not far better than this. On the bright side, this is also not the worst version of it I’ve ever seen. 

I want to start with some positives. Firstly, the location where it was filmed is quite beautiful. It looks like it was a really pleasant place to film. Secondly, there are some costumes in this that look absolutely stunning. They are suits of armour made to look like wolves and they may be the best thing in the film. It’s the sort of thing I can easily see cosplayers making, if any of them watch the film. 

Sadly that’s about it for the positives. The film looks and feels really low-budget for the most part. The effects such as they are, seem to be where they spent most of the money. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they had a lot of funds to spend and they feel really amateur. The editing of the film is in all honesty appalling. There are cuts and jumps that feel really weird and forced, and at some point,s the scenes being cut from almost seem unfinished when they switch, as if a scene ends mid-sentence. 

The performances overall range from mid to unsatisfying. One of the most upsetting things about this aspect of it all is that the late great Tony Todd is in this as one of his final few performances. He is a legend in the horror genre and it’s disappointing that this was one of his final films. 

Overall, this isn’t the worst film I’ve ever seen. It has moments, few and far between, of possibilities. With a higher budget and a better cast, I can legitimately see this being a really good film. Sadly at this juncture? It just isn’t.  2/5, and that is mainly for the armour.
