The 31st Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is released and we check out Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in IMAX 3D, this is the movie, which officially kicks off phase 5 of the MCU, Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Together, with Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. Jonathan Majors joins the adventure as Kang.
The new movie has very much a “Guardians” feel to it with the amount of comedy that is strewn throughout the movie, which is great to lift the spirits and give some enjoyment to going to the cinema to see a movie on the big screen, although I have to say that Rudd’s Scott Lang character doesn’t seem to have the same feeling that I got from him in the previous Ant-Man movies. I’m not sure if this is down to the writing or if maybe after 31 MCU movies the thrill of the universe has worn a little thin.
But a return to the big screen of the cast of characters including Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer etc is great to see, and the chance to revisit the Quantum Realm in all its IMAX 3D glory is certainly a cinematic experience that brings the tiny world to life with the introduction of some new characters and strange creatures into the MCU.
I really enjoyed seeing Bill Murray as Lord Krylar, although I would have loved some more screen time from him in this role, maybe we will see him again in an MCU movie with the Multiverse (more on that later).
The same goes for Katy O’Brian and her character, Jentorra. A great warrior character that can certainly kick some Quantum Realm backside. If her face does look familiar then fans of Z Nation with recognise her as she played George in the series.
The story for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaina is one that really stands on its own for the MCU movies, there is plenty of action to keep you entertained and as I mentioned earlier comedic moments for you to have a laugh, and there isn’t anything really eye-opening about the story, but we do get to see so much more of Kang and the other side of him that we didn’t really get to see in the LOKI series.
We also get a live-action introduction to MODOK, many of you that read the comic books will know who I am talking about, plus if you’ve seen the series on Disney+. Although I have to say that the CGI for this one did look a little weird and took me a little getting used to watching with the character’s screen time.
Director Peyton Reed has returned to direct the film and he has certainly brought his style to it and brought us a movie that is silly and fun to watch.
Does Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have Post-Credit Scenes?
Yes, there are two scenes for you to wait for once you have seen the film, I don’t want to give too much away with any spoilers for them, but the first features Kang and really pulled in the multiverse that we have been seeing more and more of in the MCU and the second which comes right at the end of the credits is one that I’m sure fans of a mischievous character will love to see back on the big screen.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quamtumainia IMAX 3D
Much like a lot of the Marvel Movies that we have seen recently Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaina was filmed for IMAX with IMAX-certified digital cameras and during the 2h 5m running time we get 35 minutes of IMAX exclusive Expanded Aspect Ratio, featuring up to 26% more picture in selected sequences throughout the film and these look great, opening up the Quantum Realm and giving you the feeling that you are in the expanse of the strange world.
Since Captain America: Civil War, Marvel directors have been turning to IMAX-certified digital cameras and on an IMAX screen is exactly how director Peyton Reed intended for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to be experienced.
