Condor’s Nest – “A decade after the fall of Nazi Germany, an American aviator travels across South America in search of war criminals and encounters more than he bargained for.”
One of the best parts about doing what I do with my movie reviews is being asked to do reviews by more experienced people, and sometimes by the film-makers themselves. What this does mean is that I have, as part of this, faced a huge variety in the quality of some of the movies I have been asked to review. Unfortunately, this one is very much at the lowest end of that totem pole.
The idea behind this film is an intriguing one, though it’s a kind of story that’s been done before. Nazi Hunters looking for nazis in South America, shortly after WW2. What makes this one a little different is the personal mission of the main character, specifically hunting the Nazi that murdered the flight crew of the bomber he was on during the war.
That is where any positives about this film end.
The cinematography gives this film a massively low-budget look, and sometimes that works really, really, well. Here it just makes the film look cheap, almost as if it was made on the most shoestring budget possible. The effects are simply poor. The sets, such as they are, look cobbled together last minute. It just doesn’t look good, at all.
The performances are barely 2-dimensional. None of the characters are believable and the script feels like it was written by someone that didn’t understand the period that they were writing about. This is a film that has stars like Arnold Vosloo and Michael Ironside in it, and it feels like the whole thing has been phoned in. It’s just not good.
Overall I actually feel like trying to invent a time machine just to get the viewing time back. This is not a film I will ever watch again, and it’s not a film I could legitimately recommend to anyone. It’s getting a 1.5/5. Is it the worst film I’ve ever seen? No. Is it still a bad movie? Yes, yes it is.
