Cabin In The Woods Movie Review

It was a while back when I first saw the trailer for Cabin In The Woods and to be honest, I really wasn’t sure what it was going to be like, but the first thing that came to mind, after seeing the cabin, was The Evil Dead.

Even with the outline of the film, it sounded like The Evil Dead:

Five friends go for a break in a remote cabin in the woods, but they get more than what they were expecting. What horrors await them in the Cabin in the Woods.

No Spoilers Here For My Cabin In The Woods Review!

It’s going to be a tough one to write a review Cabin in the Woods, because I really don’t want to give anything away for the film, as I found that the less you know about the film the better, if you go in to see the film and just haven’t got a clue what it’s about and just go in thinking something bizarre is happening in the Cabin in the Woods then that’s the best way to view it.

What I can say is with Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard behind the helm of Cabin in the Woods, you are in for some jumpy bits, a mass or gore, twists and turns and some rather funny bits that only Joss Whedon could do.

So we have the five friends, Dana (Kristen Connolly), Curt (Chris Hemsworth), Jules (Anna Hutchison), Marty (Fran Kranz) and Holden (Jesse Williams) turning up at the Cabin in the Woods and the horror begins.

I picked up on several homages to other horrors such as Friday The 13th, Hellraiser, The Ring and several other movies thrown in for us horror fans, I just thoroughly enjoyed spotting the horror movie and some of the cast that have been in other Joss Whedon productions such as Amy Acker (Fred in Angel) and Tom Lenk (Andrew Wells in Angel).

It’s not the worlds best horror movie, it’s a damn sight more enjoyable than the awful The Devil Inside, Cabin in the Woods in funny and does keep you gripped to every second of the movie, with you waiting for the next gory death and that step closer to you discovering what the hell is happening and who are the people in the underground complex!

Overall Thoughts For Cabin in the Woods

It’s a fun, silly, slightly over the top movie, that isn’t so much a horror movie but more of a bit of a fun poke at some of the classic horror movies from the mid 80’s and 90s. Go see this for the sheer fun of it 😉
