Fresh from her acclaimed performances opening for the multimillion-selling rock legends Placebo at Shepherd’s Bush Empire and various international festivals, 14-year-old Thai rock sensation Vimolwan Saisathit, known as PETCH, has released her latest single, ‘Ultraviolet’ – OUT NOW.
‘Ultraviolet’ captures the essence of melodic rock akin to Evanescence, combined with the raw angst of Linkin Park. PETCH emphasizes that the song’s message is about following your deepest, darkest intuition: ‘Extinguish the light and follow the glowing ultraviolet path. It will lead you to where you truly belong and desire to be.’
Intrigued? We set out to discover more about this rising rock metal star…!
You appeared on “Asia’s Got Talent” being told by 16-time Grammy winner David Foster that you were “destined for great things”. Did this give you the confidence to form a band?
Yes, it did. This is a big signal that I can, if I work hard, become globally famous as an international artist! That is my dream.
Where did the name ‘Petch’ come from?
My dad named me/us (as a band): it means ‘diamond’ in Thai. I like to say it’s because although we are tough and rock hard, we also sparkle and shine!
What inspired your singles ‘9 Volter’, ‘Black Neon’ and the latest one ‘Ultraviolet’
‘9 Volter’ represents powers and fire. Pow! It is filled with intense energy and passion. The song has a raw and grungey style which I love!
‘Black Neon’ is a slow tempo song and is all alt rock melodies and moody guitars! It tells the tale of two teenagers who live for the night, running away from their everyday lives.
‘Ultraviolet’ is a song that encourages you to trust your innermost instincts: to ‘extinguish the light and follow the glowing ultraviolet path.’ This journey will lead you to where you truly belong. Embrace your deepest emotions!
What other bands/ artists have influenced your music?
Soooooooo many! But currently I love Avenged Sevenfold mixed with a lot of classic rock vibes from Deep Purple. Also, I love the raw metal energy of Slipknot.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I think being a noteworthy young woman guitarist from Thailand! This makes me stand out and that makes me happy. I’m still on my journey though! I like to think onwards and upwards!
What other projects do you have coming up?
I am back from an amazing experience at performing at festivals and I am now dedicating myself to my first album! I hope to release it in Summer 2025. I am so excited! Watch this space!
Tell us something interesting about you we should know!
I am talkative, creative, rocking: and I like to surprise people and audiences with my passion for metal! I feel it in my blood!
Tell us a funny story about your life!
When I first performed on a stage, I was 3 years old! Can you believe it? I was so scared I cried and ran away from that stage? . I was terrified at the time, but it makes me giggle now. I was just a baby!
