In 1971, America is on edge. Racial tensions are at boiling point, protests against the Vietnam War rage and off the coast of San Francisco an oil spill devastates the environment. At the centre of it all are the truckers who have been tasked with cleaning up the mess and who are caught between opposing factions – a negligent oil company and eco-activists desperate to save the planet.

Armed with only three trucks, a whole lot of grit and determination and a lot to prove, Charlie Walker lands one of the biggest contracts to clean up the coast. But as he takes on the challenge, he’s not just fighting to clean the Bay, but also to support his wife (Safiya Fredericks) and children and keep his home.
With a stellar soulful ‘70s soundtrack, outstanding performances and a powerful story of resilience and optimism in the face of racism, I’m Charlie Walker blends heart and soul and a lesser-known historical moment – showing how one man’s fight for justice can change the course of history.
