In a new Exclusive Interview on Blazing Minds ahead of Horror-on-Sea I got a chance to ask Writer/Director Andrew J Chambers a few questions about the film ‘Lust, Magic, and the Witches Sabbath.

Q. Your film has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival. Can you tell us what we can expect?

A. A much darker movie than I usually make. With a small sprinkle of the comedy found in my other films. I based this off of the real history of witchcraft.
Q. You co-wrote the script with Dane-Mychal Marvin. What were some of your influences when writing the script and what was your process for writing together?
A. My biggest influence for this film was the movie Häxan. I wanted put the practices that women were accused of so long ago in a modern setting. As for writing with Dane it was bassinet I had a rough script and he polished it up and added a little to fill it out.
Q. What were some of your influences for the look and style of the film?
A. I don’t know if I had many influences for the look and style. I just knew I wanted it to be dark to reflect the mood of the movie.
Q. Did you make any changes from the original script during filming?
A. I usually do make changes just because we run into issues where we have to change something last minute due to budget or a location falling through but we actually stuck pretty close to the script on this one. I had plenty of time to prepare and everything was well planned out.
Q. What were some of your favourite moments during filming?
A. Two of my favourite moments came toward the end of a very long day of shooting. We got to absolutely drench Morrigan in blood. We emptied an entire fire extinguisher on her. Unfortunately for her we were in the middle of nowhere and she remained covered in that blood for hours. The second moment came later that night/morning when Ari emerged from the makeup trailer transformed into the Devil and immediately started getting into character. I wish I would have written some dialogue for the role because he was really into it.
Q. Did you experience any issues during filming?
A. We did have some issues with flights getting cancelled and delayed which caused us to have to fly Ivy out a second time to finish filming but everything worked out in the end.
Q. What makes stand out as something different in the horror genre?
A. As far as witch movies go this one feels very different to me because of the historical accuracy as far as the accusations of what witches did during their black masses. It’s the only film other than Häxan I’ve ever seen that even mentions witches balm.
Q. What do you hope people take away after watching the film?
A. I just hope they have a good time watching it.
Q. Do you have any other projects which you are currently working on?
A. I just recently released ‘Babezilla vs the Cyber Skanks: Rise of MechaBabezilla’ which is a sequel to Babezilla vs the Zombie Whorde. So after just completing that I think I’m going to take a month or two to regroup and maybe hammer out a new script. I just have to decide which of my many ideas to pick first.
Q. If someone was looking to write and direct their own film what advice would you give them?
A. Absolutely do it and don’t let anything stop you. Write a script that is doable with the resources you have and make sure you finish no matter what.
