London and Tel Aviv-based artist Nadav Sivan embodies multiple talents: singer, songwriter, producer, and performer, and is, undeniably, poised for stardom!
His journey into music began unexpectedly through music therapy. Nadav was partially deaf until the age of four, after which a major operation restored his hearing. Post-surgery, his parents gifted him a piano, igniting a passion that knew no bounds. He soon became a top-tier classically trained pianist, performing and competing throughout his childhood and teenage years. Since then Nadav, along with his band members Omri and Idi, has been busy performing acclaimed red-hot shows in Berlin, Cannes, and London and has caught the eye of many notable music industry movers and shakers in the process!
His latest single is the moving and gorgeously melodic “Perfume”, accompanied by a full orchestra that captures every layer of emotion, blending the intimacy of the lyrics with the sweeping grandeur of orchestral sounds. “Perfume”, is OUT NOW. Blazing Minds had a chat with Nadav to find out much more about the man and his music!
1. Nadav, can you share with us how your musical journey began? What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
My musical journey started in a rather unique way. I was born partially deaf, and it wasn’t until I underwent surgery at the age of four that my hearing was restored. To celebrate this pivotal moment, my parents gave me a piano. That gift changed everything—it became my voice and my connection to the world. From there, I trained as a classical pianist and eventually found my way to singing and songwriting.
2. Your music is known for its emotional depth and unique sound. Can you walk us through your creative process when writing and producing a new song?
It usually starts with a melody or an emotion that feels impossible to put into words. I spend a lot of time at the piano, letting the music guide the story. Once the core is clear, I refine it, often layering orchestral elements or modern beats to create a balance between classic and contemporary sounds.
3. Your latest single, “Perfume,” has touched many hearts. Can you tell us the story behind the song and what inspired its powerful message?
“Perfume” was inspired by a student I mentored in a children’s music project. She immigrated from Ethiopia and overcame tremendous challenges. Her resilience and talent inspired the lyrics, particularly the chorus: “Run away, leave everything behind, like the sun, you will rise.” It’s a song about hope, perseverance, and finding strength to transcend difficulties.
4. Your debut album is called “Till The Day We Die.” How was the journey of creating your first album?
Creating Till The Day We Die was a deeply personal and transformative experience. Alongside the emotional depth of the songs, I also wanted to express feelings of freedom, release, and liberation. The mix of cinematic ballads and genre-blending tracks reflects my eclectic influences and desire to create something honest and timeless.
5. Are you working on your next album?
Yes! I’m currently working on my second album, slated for release in 2025. It’s shaping up to be more introspective and raw, delving deeper into the personal themes of love and loss.
6. Which artists or genres have had the most significant influence on your music, and how have they shaped your sound?
Growing up as a classical pianist, composers like Beethoven and Rachmaninoff were pivotal for me. As I expanded into pop and R&B, artists like Prince, Stevie Wonder, Frank Ocean, Beyoncé, and Adele deeply influenced my sound. Their ability to blend different genres while staying emotionally raw continues to inspire me.
7. Performing live in your hometown, Tel Aviv, must be a unique experience. How do you prepare for your live shows, and what do you enjoy most about performing in front of an audience?
Performing in Tel Aviv feels intimate and electric. Preparation involves rigorous rehearsals with my band, but I also leave room for spontaneity on stage. The connection with the audience—the way the energy flows both ways—is what I cherish most.
8. Your music often touches on social and cultural issues. How important is it for you to address these topics through your songs, and what message do you hope to convey?
Music is my platform to explore and challenge societal norms. I’m passionate about promoting inclusivity, coexistence, and hope. Whether through songs like “U So Hot,” celebrating individuality, or community projects with children, I strive to amplify voices that need to be heard.
9. How do you engage with your fans, and what has been the most memorable interaction you’ve had with a fan so far?
I connect with fans primarily through social media and live performances. One of the most memorable moments was when a fan shared how one of my songs helped them navigate their coming-out journey. Moments like that remind me why I do what I do.
10. Can you give us a sneak peek into any future projects or collaborations you’re excited about?
I’m excited about some upcoming collaborations, but unfortunately, I can’t share further details right now. Stay tuned!
11. How has your musical journey contributed to your personal growth, and what lessons have you learned along the way?
My journey has taught me resilience and the importance of embracing vulnerability. Every challenge—whether personal or professional—has shaped me into a more compassionate and authentic artist.
12. What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are trying to break into the industry?
Stay true to your voice. The industry can be tough, but authenticity always shines through. Work hard, stay curious, and build genuine connections. Most importantly, never lose sight of why you started making music in the first place.
