Miami Fox Streaming has remastered and restored the cult horror film Howling IV: The Original Nightmare for a March 5th release, exclusive to Miami Fox Streaming and available through their website, ROKU, Apple and Android stores. The film follows a successful author, played by Romy Windsor (Face/Off), who moves to a small town after suffering a mental breakdown and is tormented by demons and ghosts. She soon realizes her wild imagination isn’t her only problem.Â
Howling IV: The Original Nightmare (1988) is a supernatural horror film and the fourth instalment in The Howling franchise. Directed by John Hough, the movie is a loose adaptation of Gary Brandner’s novel The Howling, returning to the source material more faithfully than previous films in the series.
The story follows Marie Adams (Romy Windsor), a successful novelist who suffers from disturbing visions and a nervous breakdown. To help her recover, she and her husband, Richard (Michael T. Weiss), retreat to a secluded cabin in the small town of Drago. However, Marie soon discovers that the eerie town harbours a dark secret—its residents are connected to a hidden colony of werewolves. As she unravels the town’s sinister past, Marie must fight to survive when the terrifying truth about Drago is revealed.
Unlike its predecessors, Howling IV leans more into psychological horror and slow-burning suspense, with an emphasis on atmosphere rather than action. The film features practical effects, eerie cinematography, and a chilling score that contribute to its unsettling tone. While it received mixed reviews for its pacing and lower-budget production compared to the original The Howling (1981), it has gained a cult following for its attempt to stay true to Brandner’s novel.
Not only will Howling IV: The Original Nightmare be dropping on March 5th, but on March 30th the critically acclaimed Howling V: The Rebirth, often compared to The Beast Must Die and And Then There Were None, will hit the platform with just as much love and care.
