Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese teamed up for The Wolf of Wall Street a film that has caused a little bit of controversy before it even hit the UK cinemas and now its available on DVD/Blu-Ray, but with all the controversy aside, how is the movie?
Martin Scorsese directs the story of New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort. From the American dream to corporate greed, Belfort goes from penny stocks and righteousness to IPOs and a life of corruption in the late 80s. Excess success and affluence in his early twenties as founder of the brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont warranted Belfort the title “The Wolf of Wall Street.” — (C) Paramount
The Wolf of Wall Street – Review
So before even attempting to give the film a review, I must point out that The Wolf of Wall Street is a long movie, just under 3 hours long, so for those of you that can’t sit still or get bored during “epic” movies then you may want to think twice!
OK, so now that’s out-of-the-way, let’s get on with it. Probably not one of Scorsese’s best movies, I’m a big fan of Taxi Driver myself, but it is a movie that comes close, it is certainly going to be a movie that will do well in the Oscars, it’s already won a Golden Globe with Leonardo DiCaprio taking, Best Actor, but beaten to Best Motion Picture by American Hustle.
With DiCaprio’s performance, which is not only funny (in my point of view) in parts and the great cast that make the film one which is brilliant to watch, it will certainly have its mixed reviews from critics and movie goers.
Love it or hate it, you have to admit that Martin Scorsese has done a brilliant job with the movie, the production, direction and camera work for the film are spot on, OK you may not like some of the scenes that may be a little to close to the bone, but it does have an 18 certificate.
This is not a teenagers film, this is an adults film and one which those wanting to get away from those awful “found footage” movies, a film that is certainly going to be listed as one of the best movies from 2014, but not for everyone, which I did mention earlier.
The Wolf of Wall Street is a film that does do exactly what it planned out to do and for this, I applaud it and the cast and crew, I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 hours from start to finish and it’s certainly a film which will be in my end of year list of movies.
