We got invited to the Cineworld Broughton Gala Opening

Last night was one of those nights that we love here on Blazing Minds as we had been invited to the Gala Opening of the new Cineworld in Broughton and a special screening of Disney’s Tomorrowland.

Those of you who are regular visitors to the website will have seen the hard hat tour that we had a few weeks ago before the new cinema with a massive IMAX screen opened last week.

So I was very excited when the invitation came through for the Gala Opening of the cinema, it was bound to be an interesting and fun night.

Cineworld Broughton has been designed with the highest standards and this can be seen from the moment you step through the doors, the foyer floor is a glittering red and black to match the Cineworld logo, at the moment there is a section cordoned off, and this is the Starbucks that will be opening soon and I have been told that as soon as Starbucks opens the Cinema will have WiFi from the coffee chain.

Sadly no WiFi last night and a no signal on my phone either for any tweeting during the evening, but that’s not a bad thing as I do hate mobile phones going off during movies, which I have mentioned in an interview I did for the Broughton Shopping Park website recently.

The foyer also has a long narrow screen that runs from around the entrance to the screens around over the counters for the snacks and drinks, which shows what’s coming up and what’s showing at the cinema, it looks pretty awesome and while sitting on the comfy sofa seats, my attention would be swayed over to the screens as the lighting changed in the area.

I have to say that I do like the way that you can buy your tickets from a touch screen system and there were a few of these, select the film you want to see, the date and time, pop in your debit/credit card and buy your tickets, which makes it a great quick way to buy your movie tickets, especially if there is a queue.

So shortly after 7 pm, we started going into screen 11, the IMAX screen, everyone was greeted and given a choice of drinks, alcohol and non-alcoholic, before going into the screen and a table was also laid on with more drinks and canapes to choose from, I found my seat, which even these had treats for everyone, a bag of popcorn, a box of chocolates, a bottle of water and a Tomorrowland gift.

The seats in the IMAX screen are really comfortable with plenty of soft padding on the armrests and unlike many cinemas that seem to have one armrest on either side to share, these seats have their own, so you get double armrests, no arguing over which one belongs to who! Plus the drink holder has a number with an arrow pointing to which seat it belongs to, what a great idea.

Shortly after we had sat down, plates full of canapes of various types were brought around for everyone, which seemed to be mainly salmon, not a big fan of salmon myself, but you could see that some people did like it as they would be taking two or three at a time, I have to say that the wild mushroom canapes were delicious as were the samosa’s with dipped in a chilli dip, I could have sat there eating those all night.

At around 7:45 once everyone was settled, the speeches began with thanks to everyone coming along for the evening and to all those involved in getting the Cinema completed and to IMAX for bringing the first IMAX screen to North Wales, which is something that I have all been waiting for a long time, you haven’t experienced cinema until you’ve seen IMAX.

Two cinema reels were brought out and Michelle McClean, Cineworld Broughton’s General Manager, cut the film. A roar of applause ensued and now it was time to sit back and enjoy the evening showing of Disney’s latest movie, Tomorrowland.

Cineworld Broughton has 11 screens and is the only cinema with an IMAX screen in North Wales, the seating capacity for the cinema is around 1,648 people, and the screens are crystal clear as is the sound which pumps out from a tremendous 7.1 system which gives the viewer a rich depth of sound throughout the movie.

Cineworld Unlimited card holders can also enjoy access to an unlimited number of films per month for less than the price of two new-release peak-time tickets. Customers can opt to receive all the latest film information, including a weekly email with film times for Cineworld in Broughton and plenty of other great offers.

My recommendation is to go check out the IMAX screen, it’s an experience you don’t want to miss.
