The Cineworld Unlimited Screenings seem to be more frequent at the moment and last nights screening was the upcoming release of Military Wives starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Sharon Horgan and Emma Lowndes.
Directed by Oscar®-nominated director of The Full Monty, Peter Cattaneo, comes an inspirational comedy-drama based on the incredible true story of The Military Wives Choirs, the story follows the wives as their partners are away at war in Afghanistan, the group of women came together to form a singing troupe, overcame their differences, and became a global media sensation.
After seeing the trailer several times over the last few weeks at Cineworld, I was intrigued that a film had been made about the Military Wives that came together to give themselves something to do while their partners were fighting in a foreign land and with Cattaneo at the helm of the movie I was hoping that it would have the same passion that he put into The Full Monty, I wasn’t disappointed.
Military Wives is a film that has some great humour to it and is a film that has a that good feeling factor along with some teary moments, yes I did find myself welling up at one point of the film, but this goes to show how well the cast and director have brought the story to the big screen.
Kate (Kristen Scot Thomas) and Lisa (Sharon Horgan) work brilliantly on-screen together and I have to say that I love the chemistry and emotion that they brought to the characters throughout the film, the same goes for the rest of the cast, from the start of the “choir” at the barracks to the triumphant performance at the Royal Albert Hall, the cast will have you laughing and cheering them on from start to finish.
There are some many great moments during Military Wives and the laugh out loud moments certainly keeps the flow of the film going, lookout for a wonderful scene when the wives out doing their cross country walk and as they get caught in the rain they find a tunnel to shelter in, they then discover that they can indeed perform together as a choir in a wonderful eye-opening moment.
The film is such a refreshing change from all the action-packed movies that are doing the rounds and it’s lovely to see a good light-hearted and well-produced British made film that pulls on the heart-strings along with giving the chuckle muscles a bit of a workout, I have to say that when the film gets its official release in March I may just have to go and see it again, yes I enjoyed it that much.
With such a superb cast list including Kristen Scott Thomas, Sharon Horgan, Greg Wise, Jason Flemyng, Emma Lowndes, Gaby French, Lara Rossi, Amy James-Kelly and India Ria Amarteifio.
