Final Caller is a 2020 horror thriller, written and directed by Todd Sheets (Dreaming Purple Neon, Clownado). It stars Douglas Epps, Rachel Largen, Alex Brotherton, Jack McCord, Jane Plumberg, Dilynn Fawn Harvey, Antwoine Steele, Erin Wolfe, Logan Elizabeth Giesing, Jordan Bryson, and Lindsey Michelle. A serial killer has his sights set on an arrogant, pompous radio host, who is about to receive his final call of the night.
This is a surprisingly awesome, late-night, beer, and popcorn style of horror film. It’s hilarious, entertaining and absolutely bat shit crazy. The acting is a bit over the top at times and jokes are corny and tend to fall flat, but that only adds to the charm. It reminds me of the magical old school low budget B horror movies that we used to find buried deep within the shelves at the local video store.
There’s not really much in the way of the story and the dialogue could certainly use some work. Also, the costumes, lighting, and editing weren’t the best and could have been better. Yet, there’s just something about this film that you can’t help but enjoy. It’s mean spirited and demented, with some seriously sick gore that’s sure to make your insides churn.
The grimy, filthy, antagonistic tone is very similar to that of director Rob Zombie. It’s violent, ruthless, and a bit disturbing, with a ton of blood and some truly despicable characters that you can’t help but love and hate at the same time.
Final Caller is sick, twisted, and deranged as f*ck. A rotten good time. If you like maniacally macabre, low budget indie horror films, then this one’s for you. Kick your feet up, sit back, and enjoy the ride.
