We are getting closer to the festive season and Christmas comes a little early with the new film from Ryan Hendrick, Lost at Christmas.
Blue Finch Film Releasing and Magic Monkey Films are releasing Lost at Christmas in cinemas from 4th December – ahead of the film’s digital release on the 7th!
Lost At Christmas is set in the remote Scottish town of Fort William, on Christmas Eve, when life is turned upside down for Jen (Natalie Clark) and Rob (Kenny Boyle). Suddenly finding themselves heartbroken, single and stranded, they team up to try and reach home 100 miles away to be with their families. “Borrowing” Jen’s now ex-boyfriend’s classic car, the pair hit the road, but it’s not long before the weather turns for the worse forcing them to continue their journey on foot.
This quaint film is one that work is one that works very well with its subdued pace and comedic moments as Jen and Rob attempt to get to Glasgow in Jen’s Ex’s stolen car, only to find themselves stuck without transport and arriving in a snowed in at the ClacHaig Inn where they learn more about each other as they stay there while they wait for the roads to clear.
The hotel is frequented by the brilliant Sylvester McCoy and Frazer Hines who I have to say stole the scenes that they were in, these two are a brilliant double act and they had me laughing out loud, we really need to see Sylvester and Frazer together in more roles like this and it does seem that they work very well with Ryan Hendrick.
As Lost at Christmas movies along at its calming pace, we are taken on the deeper into Jen and Rob’s stories as to how they have got where they started when they bumped into each other at the train station before embarking on their ill-fated journey to Glasgow.
It’s a delightful film to watch and certainly has that Christmas feel to it and that includes the Christmas Jumper, the characters are well written performed and it’s great to see McCoy and Hines together as well as seeing Caitlin Blackwood in another production after her wonderful performance in Sundown, there is also an air of mystery to Lost at Christmas with Claire Grogan’s character, but it’s Jen and Rob their “will they, won’t they” connection that builds during the film that makes this film such a joy to watch as you wonder will this journey be a discovery that they may be for each other or will they part after the roads are clear to travel their separate ways.
Lost at Christmas is nicely shot and the cinematography from John Rhodes with its scenes inside the Clachaig Inn looking fresh, nicely lit and crisp as the snow outside in the Scottish Highlands, the outside shots on the snow-covered hills also look great with Jen’s red coat and elf outfit standing out in the white blanketed rolling landscapes all come together perfectly.
Adding to the emotions of the film is a beautiful soundtrack from Stephen Wright, who also brought us a great soundtrack for Sundown, which brings the production together making Lost at Christmas a quaint Christmas movie that has everything you could possibly want from a heartwarming film during the festive season.
Lost at Christmas is directed by Ryan Hendrick who brought us the fantastic Sundown, which also starred Hines and Blackwood, Ryan wrote the film with Clare Sheppard and it is based on the acclaimed short film Perfect Strangers, it also stars Natalie Clark (The Last Bus), Kenny Boyle, Sanjeev Kohli (Still Game) & Clare Grogan (Gregory’s Girl) to name a few. The film is due for release in cinemas from 4th December – ahead of the film’s digital release on the 7th, so just in time for your festive film watchlist.
