I have to say that this has been one of the films that I’ve been so excited to see, so yesterday I popped along to Cineworld in Broughton to check out Spider-Man No Way Home in IMAX.
In the latest Spider-Man movie sees it continuing straight off from Spider-Man Far From Home and for the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighbourhood hero’s identity has been revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. Peter Parker (Tom Holland) now has only one person that he can turn to to help restore his secret, so he enlists the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to restore his secret, but with Peter’s constant questioning and changing of the spell it goes terribly wrong and tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in the Multiverse. Now, Parker has to defend his universe from the villains and prevent a cataclysmic catastrophe of space and time.
The wait to see Spider-Man No Way Home has been a really tough one, not seeing it on the day of release has been a challenge to hide away from the many spoilers that are out there on various social media sites and believe me that being someone that has to spend a lot of time on them for work it’s been one of the hardest films to not spoil, but thankfully I managed to do it and I’m so glad I did.
Knowing how horrible it can be for a film to be spoilt, I’m keeping away from the spoilers for you in this review and most of the mentions of characters are ones that you will see in the trailer.
First of all, it’s amazing to see some of the classic Spider-Man villains and their actors returning to the big screen in the Spidey-verse, many of you may have seen the Disney+ shows LOKI and What If?… So we already knew that we were heading down the Multiverse rabbit hole, but No Way Home certainly sets up nicely for the journey with Doctor Strange in 2022.
For Spider-Man fans over the years that have enjoyed the villains from the movies before Tom Holland became the web-slinger, it’s great to see the villains that we have come to love back on the big screen, and with this movie, we also got some fantastic surprises with characters that have some amazing cameos to bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe together, or should that be the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse!
While watching the movie in IMAX, which I have to say for me is the perfect way to watch it but more on that later, I found the film much more emotional than I thought it would be, there were moments when you punch the air with delight, laugh very hard at some of the fantastic comedic moments and well up with tears for various reasons.
For me this is the Spider-Man movie that I’ve wanted to see for many years, everything works brilliantly from the script from Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the cast and it’s great to see Zendya and Jacob Batalon together with Holland again, the amazing special effects and the superb soundtrack from Michael Giacchino and the directing from Jon Watts.
This movie has everything you could possibly want from the MCU/SCU, the action is perfectly placed throughout and there is plenty going on to keep you entertained through its 2h 28min running time.
Spider-Man No Way Home IMAX Experience
As I mentioned earlier I checked out the movie in IMAX and you can see that the film was shot for the IMAX experience, unlike some of the previous IMAX movies, this one is entirely in the IMAX E.A.R. from start to finish we get the movie in the 1.90:1 ratio, which gives us 26% more screen than a widescreen release and making Spider-Man No Way Home the first Spider-Man movie to be completely in the IMAX Enhanced Aspect Ratio.
This really pulls you into the action with the floor to ceiling screen, allowing you to see so much more, not only that we also get the superb sound that IMAX brings us as well, with more clarity than conventional screens, you can hear more in the quieter scenes such as subtle background sounds to take give you the feeling of being there.
When it comes to the big action sequences the IMAX mix really takes you on an audio ride, as the loud booms of explosions and much more rumble through the seats and you feel the power rushing through you of the sound.
Personally, I would have to go with IMAX every time for a film that has been produced in IMAX, let’s face it if a movie is shot for IMAX, then it should be seen and experienced in the viewing format.

This is the Spider-Man film I’ve been waiting for over the years, it’s an amazing rollercoaster ride of action and emotions and is certainly at the top of my movies list of best films for 2021.
