New poster and trailer released for The Princess from Altitude

Today we bring you the new poster and trailer for THE PRINCESS which tells the story of Princess Diana exclusively through contemporaneous archival footage creating a bold and immersive narrative of her life and death. Turning the camera back on ourselves, the film also illuminates the profound impact she had and how the public’s attitude to the monarchy was, and still is, shaped by these events.

THE PRINCESS will be in cinemas from Thursday 30 June including a special one-night-only event across the UK and Ireland.  Tickets for the one-night-only event are on sale now via www.altitude.film. THE PRINCESSreceives its UK Premiere at Sundance Film Festival London on 11 June.

To mark the UK release of THE PRINCESS Altitude and producers Lightbox commissioned critically acclaimed artist and social historian Nicola Green to create an original artwork, which became the basis for the poster art.

Green, whose previous subjects have included President Obama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Pope Francis and the Dalai Lama, comments:

“THE PRINCESS is unique because it only uses first-hand footage. It allows us, the viewer, to re-look at the story of Princess Diana through the lens of the past, and to re-contextualise and re-interpret events from our perspective now in 2022.

It questions how we, the audience, consume the narrative and how it confronts our preconceptions.  This is something I always aim to do in my own artistic practice; witnessing some of the most important stories happening around the world, documenting them for future generations and so challenging and exploring narratives on identity, power, race and gender.

Despite Diana being one of the most photographed and recognised women in the world, we have been largely presented with paparazzi images and official portraits usually constructed to convey a particular message, almost exclusively created by men.  Growing up, I knew Princess Diana as the hard-working patron and cheerleader of The British Lung Foundation – a charity my father set up.  As an artist I was mystified that the image I had of her in my head hadn’t been created, indeed there were very few artworks made of her at all.  I wanted to make a different kind of image of her; from the perspective of a woman, a mother, a professional and an artist.  I wanted to understand why most of us still keep multiple images of her in our minds. I wanted to create a universal, accessible yet thought-provoking work that would challenge and re-look at why Princess Diana is still as significant and compelling today as she was twenty-five years ago.”

Simon Chinn, Producer and Co-founder of Lightbox comments:

“I have been a huge admirer of Nicola’s work for a long time so it’s a great honour to have been able to commission her to create this extraordinary piece for THE PRINCESS.  In finding a fresh approach to Princess Diana’s story, and telling it exclusively through the archive, the aim of the film is to reframe the narrative for a contemporary audience and we wanted the poster art to do the same.  Nicola has achieved something remarkable in this work and, in my view, has created a modern classic that completely refreshes the iconography of Princess Diana by offering something that is simultaneously instantly recognisable and completely surprising.”
